Summary
A budget fitness tracker with a bright 1.62-inch AMOLED display, up to 21 days of claimed battery life and 150+ sports modes, sold in the US only through importers. Check the tracking accuracy before you buy: independent tests found heart-rate readings that run high and SpO2 readings that miss other wearables, and there is no onboard GPS.
Strengths
- Battery life is the standout: GSMArena measured 7 days with always-on display, notifications and sleep tracking on.
- The 1.62-inch AMOLED screen hits 1200 nits and stays readable in sunlight.
- At 15.8 g and 10.95 mm it disappears on the wrist.
- The Mi Fitness app now integrates with Strava and Google Fit.
- A full charge takes about an hour on the included magnetic cable.
Weaknesses
- No onboard GPS: walks and runs map only when your phone is with you.
- Resting heart rate read about 5 bpm high in Tech Advisor’s testing, and SpO2 fell below the 95–100% range.
- GSMArena called the deep-sleep readings overly optimistic.
- The stock TPU strap feels flimsy and does not clasp securely.
- Setup was slow and pairing with Mi Fitness took several attempts in Live Science’s test.
- Few meaningful upgrades over the Band 8.

Battery life and real-world runtime
Xiaomi’s 21-day figure comes from internal lab testing under restrictive conditions: static watch face, always-on display off, high-precision sleep and in-sleep breathing monitoring off, all-day stress and blood-oxygen monitoring off, heart rate on at a low frequency, 100 messages, 10 call reminders and 3 alarms a day, and 60 minutes of movement recording a week. Xiaomi’s own numbers fall to 9 days with always-on display and 6.6 days in heavy-load mode.
Real-world testing lands between those poles. GSMArena ran the band with always-on display, notifications, all-night sleep tracking and three to four hour-long workouts per week and got 7 days on a charge. Live Science reported nearly a month of battery life in its own testing. Android Police, with always-on display plus about half the advanced monitoring options enabled, said about a week is right. A full recharge takes about an hour on the magnetic cable.
Tracking accuracy
Tech Advisor compared step counts against two other trackers and found daily totals within a few hundred steps. Heart rate was the weak point: resting readings ran about 5 bpm higher than both comparison devices, and daily average and maximum readings were higher by the same margin. Live Science listed imprecise heart-rate measurements during intense exercise among its reasons to avoid.
Xiaomi claims improved heart-rate accuracy over the Band 8 — GSMArena repeats a 16% improvement figure — but the claim rests on Xiaomi’s internal lab data, and no instrumented test against a medical-grade reference has been published. Treat the health numbers as trends, not measurements; Xiaomi itself states the features are not for medical purposes.
Strap, setup and the Mi Fitness app
The stock TPU strap drew consistent complaints: Live Science called it flimsy and said it slips off the wrist during sleep, and Android Police flagged a strap that does not clasp securely. Xiaomi sells replacement straps in multiple colors, plus a running clip that reports 13 metrics including cadence, stride length and ground contact time ratio, and a pendant strap that turns the band into a necklace watch.
Setup is another rough edge. Live Science found the band slow to set up, needing several pairing attempts with the Mi Fitness app, and described app connectivity as patchy. Android Police notes the app has grown into a comprehensive health app with Strava and Google Fit integrations, and no subscription is required for core tracking. Xiaomi also documents that the Band 9 strap is not recommended for the Band 8 — size differences cause a loose fit, removal difficulty and inaccurate measurements — and that wearing the band in the wrong orientation degrades accuracy.
Is it worth it?
At around $60 the Band 9 is easy to recommend for phone-tethered tracking: a 1200-nit AMOLED display, 5 ATM water resistance, 150+ sports modes and a battery that lasts a week or more in real use. TechRadar listed it at $60 / £34.99 / AU$79.99 and showed a Tomtop listing at $69.99. Android Police scored it 8/10 and praised it as a budget pick for anyone willing to give up GPS. The value case weakens above roughly $70–80, where the missing onboard GNSS and the heart-rate and SpO2 findings get harder to justify.
The sensible comparison is the Band 9 Pro, which adds independent five-satellite positioning, a compass, a 1.74-inch 360x480 display and a 350 mAh battery in a 40.4 g chassis for roughly $30–60 more. If you work out without your phone, the Pro is the target; if your phone is always with you, this is the one to buy.
Which model this is
This page covers the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 global version, the aluminum-frame band — not the Smart Band 9 Pro with its built-in GNSS, and not the Smart Band 9 Active with its TFT display. Manual-archival pages list two regional codes for the global band, BHR8340GL and BHR8345GL; Xiaomi’s own spec page prints no model code, so the exact code of any given unit is unconfirmed.
The Smart Band 9 was not officially sold in the US at launch. Android Police reported the global version reaching US buyers through importers at around $60 in 2024 and working fine in the States, which means your warranty and return path is the importer, not Xiaomi US.
The Amazon listing for the global version is ASIN B0D8WQ94W5.
