XGIMI Elfin Flip Plus: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-21
Summary
Owners most often report a soft corner and color fringing on text, a picture that only holds up in a dark room, and software that needs manual correction at every start. Keeping it running costs about $12.80 a year in electricity at the listed 65 W maximum draw, and there is no lamp or filter to replace. It is worth buying below $330, and at the $379 seen on XGIMI’s own store in October 2026 the MoGo 2 Pro at $299 is the better deal unless the folding hinge is the point.
Common problems and fixes
- Soft corners and color fringing on text — an April 2026 owner reported a corner staying soft even with the projector square to the wall, plus green and purple fringes on high-contrast text and repeated manual focus adjustments; in October 2026 another owner said XGIMI agreed to replace a blurry unit, and a third owner in the same thread called his image sharp. The US warranty runs one year, and the 30-day direct return window is the practical cover. Fix: before the return window closes, check white-on-black text in all four corners with the projector physically square to the surface and keystone disabled. [5][7][2]
- Keystone correction costs sharpness and lag — input lag runs 20 ms or less at 1080p/60Hz with automatic keystone off and 56 ms or less with it on, and heavy digital correction visibly softens the picture. A Japanese hands-on test measured about 22.3 ms at 4K60 input without correction and 55.6 ms at FHD60 with keystone, on differing inputs. Fix: level and center the unit first and keep side projection angles within 25 degrees, the maker’s own limit for reliable correction. [1][4]
- Auto-setup and streaming software need babysitting — an August 2026 renter needed manual keystone correction at every start, saw the Wi-Fi connection delay at times, found apps sluggish after an update until a reboot cleared it, and got choppy iPhone screen mirroring. Fix: reboot after system updates and use the built-in Google Cast or DLNA instead of phone mirroring. [6][1]
- Buzzy or high-pitched electrical noise — a July 2026 owner reported a faint buzz that persisted on a second outlet, and the renter separately mentioned a high tone while the unit was plugged in; another owner of the same model heard nothing unusual. The source of the sound and whether it was a fault were never established, so no confirmed defect rate. Fix: try another outlet, and raise it with XGIMI service under the one-year warranty if it continues. [8][6][2]
- Image turned green after 30–40 minutes — one June 2026 owner described the whole picture going green; nobody established the cause or the repair outcome, and no frequency is known. Fix: keep the receipt and serial number, since warranty claims require both plus a fault description. [9][2]
- Control is remote-dependent — one owner found no practical onboard navigation buttons and could not restore app control after losing the remote while the projector was not yet on the same Wi-Fi, working around it with a USB mouse. Fix: keep the original handset and test phone control before travel. [5][1]
Parts and consumables
- Remote batteries, 2 × AAA — two AAA cells ship in the box; Energizer MAX AAA four-packs were $4.89 at Target in October 2026, about $2.45 per two-cell change before tax. No replacement interval has been published, so swaps depend on how long the cells actually last. [12][1]
- Mains power adapter — the detachable AC-to-DC supply is included. A third-party 19 V adapter advertised for the Elfin Flip Plus was listed at $24.99 on Walmart Marketplace in October 2026, sold by PowerHOOD; it is not verified as an XGIMI-authorized or electrically safe replacement, so confirm connector, current and polarity with XGIMI before fitting it. Replace only on failure or loss, not annually. [13][1]
Yearly running cost
Electricity is the only running cost that matters. At the listed maximum draw of 65 W, three hours a day for 365 days is 71.2 kWh a year, about $12.80 at an illustrative $0.18/kWh household tariff; real draw, brightness mode, hours and your own tariff change the result, and 65 W is a ceiling rather than a measured average. Remote cells add about $2.45 per two-AAA change with no published replacement interval, and there are no scheduled lamp or filter replacements, no subscription and no required service visit. [1][12]
When it is a good buy
Checked in October 2026: $379 sale against a $499 list price on XGIMI’s U.S. store, the same $379 street price catalogued by ProjectorCentral, and $499 out of stock on Walmart’s own listing, so the retailer was not a buying option; an earlier snapshot of the XGIMI page showed $319, so the promotion moves. At $299–329 the Plus is a strong buy for someone who wants the thin hinged body and built-in Google TV, conditional on easy returns and a clean focus check; at $330–379 it is reasonable if that form factor matters; above $400 the value is weak for a mains-only projector at 500 ISO lumens. At $299 the MoGo 2 Pro (New) offers 430 ISO lumens and dual 8 W speakers and is the better deal when the flip shape is not the point, the MoGo 4 at $479 adds a 71.28 Wh battery for up to 2.5 hours of video in Eco mode if you need to run without a wall outlet, and the original Elfin Flip at $303 has 400 ISO lumens and XGIMI OS instead of Google TV.
