Summary

A $39.98 indoor pan-and-tilt camera that puts 2K video, a physical privacy shutter and up to 512 GB of local recording into Wyze’s budget line. Check what you need before buying: it is indoor-only, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, and its night vision is infrared with no colour mode.

Strengths

  • 2K resolution is unusual at this price and the pan covers a full 360°.
  • The privacy shutter physically retracts the lens into the body, not just a software toggle.
  • Up to 512 GB of local microSD storage works without a subscription.
  • Two-way audio with a 95 dB siren and AI motion tracking with detection zones.
  • Compact size (60 x 62 x 120 mm) and a 6 ft cable make it easy to place.
  • Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT cover the common smart-home setups.

Weaknesses

  • Indoor only, with no IP rating, unlike the outdoor Cam Pan v3 and v4.
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; there is no 5 GHz support.
  • Night vision is infrared only, with no colour night vision specified.
  • The 100.6° diagonal field of view is narrower than the Cam Pan v3 and v4.
  • No independent professional test of this exact model exists yet, so video quality is unverified.
  • Early firmware for the model shipped with WPA3 setup and image-flickering bugs.

Privacy and night vision

The feature that sets this model apart from Wyze’s older indoor cameras is the physical privacy shutter: when you enable privacy mode the lens tilts down and retracts into the body, rather than relying on a software switch. Night vision uses four 940 nm IR LEDs. Wyze’s feature copy mentions “enhanced night vision”, but the spec sheet lists only IR LEDs and no colour night vision, so treat it as infrared until Wyze says otherwise.

Storage and running costs

Local recording runs to microSD, and the camera accepts cards up to 512 GB in exFAT. The card is not included, so add one to the purchase price; a large card is the only running cost if you skip the cloud. Wyze’s Cam Plus and Cam Unlimited subscriptions are optional and unlock AI features, but basic local recording and motion tracking work without them.

Early firmware and support

The model is new, so owner feedback is thin. Wyze’s support pages already carry troubleshooting for microSD detection, poor audio quality, privacy mode and waypoints, and motion tracking, which suggests the company expected those complaints. A beta firmware release in September 2026 (version 2.1.0.132) fixed WPA3 setup failures on some routers, image flickering, insect-detection filtering and connection issues, so early units needed updates to settle down. Older Cam Pan v3 owners have reported freezing and connection drops, but that hardware is different and the reports do not carry over.

Which model this is

This is the Wyze Indoor Cam Pan, a new 2026 indoor-only model, distinct from the Cam Pan v3 (1080p, IP65, outdoor), the Cam Pan v4 (4K, dual-band, IP65) and the original Cam Pan and Cam Pan v2. The US Amazon listing for this model is ASIN B0H87H1Y92. Match on the “Indoor Cam Pan” name and the indoor-only spec, because sellers list several Cam Pan generations side by side.

Is it worth it?

At its launch price of $39.98 from Wyze.com in August 2026, it undercuts Wyze’s own Cam Pan v3 at $44.98 and Cam Pan v4 at $59.98, and it is the cheapest way into 2K and a true privacy shutter in the range. Buy it if you want indoor 2K, local storage and a lens that physically hides; look at the v3 or v4 if you need outdoor use, 5 GHz Wi-Fi or colour night vision. No independent testing backs the video quality yet, so buy it for the features and the price rather than proven image performance.
