Summary

A battery-or-wired video doorbell with a 2K front camera and a 1080p downward camera aimed at the doorstep, usually around $100 to $120. Check the wiring and battery rules first: 24/7 local recording needs both a microSD card and hardwired power, and the battery must stay installed even when the doorbell is wired.

Strengths

  • Two cameras in one unit: a 2K forward view and a 1080p downward view for packages.
  • TechGearLab named it its Best Value Doorbell Camera and scored ease of use 9.2/10.
  • Battery or existing doorbell wiring, with a removable 6200 mAh pack.
  • Subscription is optional: alerts, live view and microSD recording work without Cam Plus.
  • MicroSD local storage up to 256 GB.
  • IP65 body, dual-band Wi-Fi and a Wi-Fi Chime in the box.

Weaknesses

  • 24/7 continuous recording needs a microSD card and hardwired power, so battery mode records events only.
  • The battery must stay installed even on AC power, because the wiring only charges it.
  • Independent video quality scored average at 5.8/10, with grainy detail, flat color and a jarring night-mode flash.
  • Owners report battery draining far faster than the claimed 3-6 months.
  • Connection instability is the largest owner complaint, and Wyze publishes a troubleshooting article for it.
  • Chunkier than many doorbells at nearly 6 in tall and over 1 in deep.

Continuous recording and the battery

The marketing leans on 24/7 local recording, but Wyze’s own documentation says continuous recording needs a microSD card and hardwired power; in battery mode the camera records events only. Even when wired, the battery must stay in place. A forum owner removed the battery on AC power and the doorbell stopped working, which confirms the wiring charges the battery and the battery runs the unit. If AC is lost, continuous recording stops until power returns, though events keep recording. One owner’s unit also refused to charge on an existing circuit, so older transformer voltage is worth checking.

What independent tests found

TechGearLab scored the doorbell 68/100 and gave it its Best Value award, with the strongest marks for ease of use (9.2/10) and the weakest for video quality (5.8/10): flat colors, grainy fine detail, a slight fish-eye effect from the wide lens, and a night-mode transition that can flash disorientingly. Its motion zones triggered reliably without false alarms from passing cars. PCWorld called the second camera genuinely useful and the unit a great deal at $90, while flagging chunky hardware, some sluggishness receiving alerts and not the best camera quality. No RTINGS, Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide or CNET test of this model was found.

Owner complaints

Owner feedback adds caution signals rather than a defect rate. The largest cluster is connection instability, with Wyze publishing a dedicated connectivity-troubleshooting article and forum threads through 2026 on units that disconnect or go offline; one wired owner’s unit drops offline every couple of months and only re-adding it fixes it. Some owners also report phantom chimes from the home’s mechanical chime and occasional hum, and a reported bug has the app refuse SD continuous recording because it thinks a wired unit is on battery.

What you pay

Wyze direct lists the doorbell at $119.98, with an extra-battery variant around $138.98 and a refurbished unit from $99.98. Home Depot listed the with-chime model at $107.67, TechGearLab quoted $120, Consumer Reports lists it from $94.96 and PCWorld reviewed it at $89.98. Wyze Canada showed $97.98 CAD from $125.98 CAD. A microSD card is separate, with Wyze’s own 32, 128 and 256 GB cards at $18.98, $29.98 and $38.98. Cam Plus is optional at about $2.99 per camera per month, with Cam Unlimited at $9.99. Below about $90 it is an easy recommendation; $100 to $120 is fair if the package camera matters; above $130 the value weakens.

Which model this is

Wyze sells this as the Duo Cam Doorbell under SKUs WVDB-DUO-BL (black) and WVDB-DUO-SV (silver), with model GW_DBD and FCC ID 2AUIUGWDBD. The catalog listing could not be tied to a specific SKU, and the indexed Amazon listing for WVDB-DUO-BL carries ASIN B0DCJB43TH. Do not confuse it with the single-camera Wyze Video Doorbell v2 or Pro, the Battery Video Doorbell (HD+), or the Duo Cam Pan camera.
