Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A countertop water flosser with six pressure settings, a 35 oz (1035 ml) reservoir and a 360-degree rotating tip handle, for people who want a large tank and on-handle control. Check availability first: Waterpik discontinued this model in Aug 2026 and no longer sells the unit.

Strengths

  • Six pressure settings, with a pause button, both on the handle.
  • The 35 oz (1035 ml) reservoir runs 90 seconds, enough to finish without a refill.
  • Three tips in the box, including a Pik Pocket tip for under the gumline.
  • The 360-degree rotating handle reaches back teeth and tight spots.
  • The removable reservoir is top-rack dishwasher safe once the valve is out.
  • ADA accepted for safety and effectiveness.

Weaknesses

  • Discontinued in Aug 2026 and absent from Waterpik’s current catalog.
  • Owners and reviewers call the motor loud, in line with other countertop Waterpik models.
  • The hold-to-stop button takes practice, and water splashes until the angle becomes habit.
  • No lid on the tank to keep dust out, and it is the largest unit in the groups tested.
  • No timer, pacer, massage mode or LED indicator.
  • No instrumented test of this model exists, and Waterpik publishes no PSI value.

Noise and daily use

The complaints are consistent but unmeasured. A roundup lists “Can be loud” as a con and says the motor sounds like other countertop Waterpik models; customer comments on a comparison page call it “pretty loud” and “slightly loud”, and one says it is louder than other models. That same roundup reports 55 to 65 decibels at six feet for the flossers it tested, with no per-model figure, so treat it as a rough ceiling rather than a WP-72 number.

The pause button stops the water only while you hold it. A roundup calls that a learning curve next to models with separate on/off switches, and says water can get everywhere until positioning and pressure control become habit.

Tips, parts and running costs

Waterpik still sells tips and parts for the WP-72, though not the unit. The JT-70E Classic Tip is $14.99 and the PP-70E Pik Pocket Tip is $14.99 on the Waterpik tips page (2026); the Classic handle-and-hose kit is $19.99 and the reservoir replacement is $14.99 in the Waterpik store (2026). Both tips are specified to fit Classic water flossers only.

Replace the Pik Pocket tip every 3 months and the Classic Jet tip every 6 months. Descale with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in a full reservoir of warm water, run at high pressure until empty, then rinse with a full reservoir of clean warm water. Waterpik says the unit has no consumer-serviceable electrical items, so the pump, motor and electronics are not owner-repairable.

Is it worth it?

Waterpik’s archived product page listed the WP-72 at $59.99, and a comparison page lists an MSRP of $49.99. Those are list prices, not a live street price, and the unit is discontinued. Waterpik’s nominated replacement, the Aquarius WP-660, is $99.99 in the current catalog. If a WP-72 costs much less than that, its feature set still makes sense; at parity with the Aquarius, buy the Aquarius and keep current support.

Which model this is

The listing for this model is ASIN B0CTHMHRSH. The WP-72 is part of the Classic countertop platform shared with the WP-60, WP-65 and WP-70; the manual Waterpik links for it is titled “Model WP-60/65/70”, and the Quick Start Guide is titled “Model WP-60/65/70/72”. It is not the Aquarius WP-660, and it is not a cordless Waterpik. Waterpik’s discontinued-products article lists the Classic Professional (WP-72) as discontinued Aug 2026 and names the Aquarius WP-660 as the similar model.
