VIOFO A129 Pro Duo: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-19

Summary

A dual-channel dash cam that pairs a 4K front camera with a 1080p rear, built on a Sony IMX317 front sensor with GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi and a supercapacitor. The usual troubles are Wi-Fi failures (including a faulty module batch VIOFO replaced by RMA), scattered reports of units that stopped working, and a clunky app with thick cables. Running costs are a high-endurance microSD card (not included) plus the optional hardwire kit for parking mode. At $200 or less the 4K front detail is easy to justify; above $250 the A149 Pro Duo that replaced it is the better spend.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

No subscription exists. The recurring spend is a high-endurance microSD card (one-off, $39.99 for VIOFO’s 64GB industrial-grade card) and, if parking mode is used, the HK3 ACC hardwire kit at $25.99. Optional extras: CPL filter about $13.49, Bluetooth remote about $17.99. [10][1][3]

When it is a good buy

Store prices: Tech Advisor reviewed it at $249.90 (Jan 2020); Vortex Radar listed $249 front+rear (Oct 2020); TechRadar listed $224.99 with Walmart at $249.90 (Jan 2023); VIOFO’s global store showed a $229.99 sale price before it sold out in September 2026. At $200 or less the 4K front detail is easy to justify; $200–250 is fair-to-good; above $250 it is weak for this specific model in 2026, since it is sold out and superseded by the A149 Pro Duo.
