Summary

A compact front-only 4K dash cam built on Sony’s STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor, with HDR, Wi-Fi 6, quad-mode GPS and an included CPL filter. It records 4K at 30fps only, and the hardwire kit for full parking mode is sold separately.

Strengths

  • True 4K from the same Sony IMX678 sensor VIOFO uses in its flagship models.
  • Wi-Fi 6 transfers, quad-mode GPS and voice control are all built in.
  • A CPL filter that was a paid option on the predecessor is now included.
  • Supercapacitor power instead of a lithium battery.
  • Image quality and color rendition are consistently praised by owners and reviewers.

Weaknesses

  • 4K is 30fps only; there is no 4K60 mode.
  • Front-only: it cannot be expanded to a rear camera.
  • Full hybrid parking mode needs the separate HK6 hardwire kit; the older HK4 will not do it.
  • One owner found the default sharpness too high out of the box.
  • The app can fail to connect while CarPlay or Android Auto is running.
  • Peak surface temperatures measured up to 80°C in a 22°C garage.

Image quality and day-to-day use

The A119M Pro is the 2025 successor to the A119 Mini 2 and the budget single-channel option in VIOFO’s line. Its sensor is the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678, the same 1/1.8-inch part VIOFO uses in its higher-end models, recording true 4K at 30fps with HDR. AutoGuide’s month-long hands-on called daytime footage quite good, with well-controlled contrast and no blurry sections, and found night footage clear enough to read plates, vehicles and pedestrians. GameRevolution, using a VIOFO-provided sample, praised sharp 4K and strong night recording but listed the front-only coverage and the separate hardwire kit as the only downsides.

Storage, firmware and running costs

The camera has no built-in storage, so footage lives only on the microSD card, which is sold separately and should be high-endurance. The 4K bitrate makes the card matter: at launch it wrote 37 Mbps, or 267 MB per one-minute file, until firmware V1.2_20260409 (2026-06-02) raised the maximum to 62 Mbps (445 MB per minute). VIOFO recommends its own industrial cards and periodic reformatting. Firmware has already changed the product once, and the DashCamTalk firmware thread carries one report of an inverted bitrate setting and scattered post-update complaints, against another user’s trouble-free run on a SanDisk Max Endurance card. The only other recurrent costs are the optional HK6 hardwire kit and the optional BTR200 remote.

Parking mode, heat and warranty

Parking mode covers hybrid time-lapse and impact recording, low-power impact detection, auto event detection with 15s before and 30s after an event, time-lapse and continuous low bitrate. Two of those need the HK6 hardwire kit, which is required for the voltage-based hybrid mode; the older HK4 does not support it. The camera uses a supercapacitor rather than a lithium battery, VIOFO’s standard choice for heat tolerance, but instrumented testing still recorded peak surface temperatures up to 80°C in a 22°C garage. The warranty is 18 months on the camera and 12 months on accessories, extended to 24 months if you register the product, and VIOFO sells the usual spares and accessories but no exact-model repair program.

Is it worth it?

VIOFO launched the A119M Pro at $160 in October 2025, and a December 2025 report cited a $189.99 list price. VIOFO’s own site later showed a $209.99 sale price, while a July 2026 review found it discounted to $159.99; VIOFO’s pricing between pages has been inconsistent. Treat $160 as the launch MSRP and compare the buy price against it. Under roughly $190 it is strong value for a front-only 4K camera with this sensor class; past $210 the case weakens, because the price approaches 2-channel and 4K60 alternatives. The things to check before buying are the HK6 requirement for full parking mode, whether 30fps-only 4K is acceptable, and registering the unit to extend the 18-month warranty to 24 months.

Which model this is

This page covers the 1-channel A119M Pro, the 2025 replacement for the A119 Mini 2. Don’t confuse it with the older A119 Mini (IMX335), the A119 Mini 2 (IMX675), the A119 V3 or the A129, A229 and A329 lines. The GPS mount was upgraded from the Mini 2, and VIOFO warns that a Mini 2 mount may power the camera but cause malfunctions. The US listing is ASIN B0FY1PQ1GR.
