Summary
A compact, front-only 2K dash cam built on the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor, with built-in GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi and a supercapacitor instead of a battery. Check two things before buying: there is no rear-camera input, and the 60fps mode requires HDR to be off.
Strengths
- PCWorld rated its captures top-notch and singled it out among small dash cams.
- The STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor handles low light and headlight flare well.
- Compact body hides behind a rear-view mirror, and the mount ships attached.
- 5GHz Wi-Fi transfers files about 4x faster than 2.4GHz.
- Built-in GPS, voice control and a supercapacitor with no battery to swell in heat.
- Buffered parking mode records 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after an event.
Weaknesses
- Front-only: there is no rear or interior channel, so it cannot cover both ends.
- 60fps and HDR are mutually exclusive; HDR caps the frame rate at 30fps.
- Parking mode needs a separately sold hardwire kit or OBD cable; the supercapacitor cannot run it alone.
- Owners report random recording stops and lock-ups that need a power cycle.
- One owner reports overheating in parking mode warped the GPS base on two units.
- The mount is non-adjustable once stuck down, and a reviewer hit a GPS time-zone bug.

Image quality and recording limits
The IMX675 sensor records 2K at 60fps, or a maximum 2.7K at 30fps. HDR works only at 30fps, so you choose smoothness or dynamic range, not both. BlackboxMyCar measured a 78 dB dynamic range in a single exposure and found 5GHz Wi-Fi about four times faster than 2.4GHz. A bench test found the normal-mode bitrate is roughly half that of the older A119 Mini, with a maximum near 30Mbps, and the mono audio level (29 dB below reference) sits under VIOFO’s WM1 (13 dB below).
Parking mode and setup
Parking mode is buffered, recording 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after an event, but it needs the optional hardwire kit or an OBD power cable because the supercapacitor alone cannot power it. The microSD card and a CPL filter are sold separately, and the mount uses semi-permanent adhesive with no post-install adjustment.
Reliability and warranty
Across Reddit and DashCamTalk threads, the recurring complaint is random recording stops, sometimes with a lock-up after a few clips that needs a power cycle. One owner reports two units dying with suspected overheating near 114°F, and another reports parking-mode overheating that warped the GPS base on two units. VIOFO says the camera shuts off when it overheats and restarts when it cools. Warranty is commonly stated as 18 months, extendable to 24 on registration in some regions, but sources disagree on the base term, so verify at purchase.
Is it worth it?
At roughly $100–119 in the US the Mini 2 is solid value for a small front-only 2K camera with GPS and a supercapacitor. Around $120–140 it is fair, but the missing rear channel and the owner-reported recording stops weigh more, and the 4K VIOFO A119M Pro sits near that price. Above $150 it is hard to justify when 4K single-channel and 2-channel cameras are close by. There is no subscription; only the memory card, CPL filter and hardwire kit are extra.
Which model this is
This page covers the single-channel VIOFO A119 Mini 2, sold on some storefronts as the A119 Mini 2-G. The -G is best read as the GPS-equipped variant rather than a documented revision. Do not confuse it with the original A119 Mini (IMX335 sensor, no 60fps), the A119 / A119 V2 / A119 V3, or the dual-channel A129 / A229 series.
