Summary

A 24-inch 1080p IPS gaming monitor with a native 180Hz refresh rate, built for budget competitive play. Check the revision before you buy: no independent lab has tested this exact model, and its 0.5ms response figure is MPRT, not real pixel speed.

Strengths

  • Native 180Hz refresh rate — the panel is designed for it, no overclock needed.
  • 0.5ms MPRT keeps perceived blur low in fast games.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium with VESA AdaptiveSync support.
  • Two HDMI 1.4 ports plus DisplayPort leave room for a second device.
  • 100 × 100mm VESA mount lets you fit a better arm.

Weaknesses

  • No built-in speakers — the non-A VX2428 has them, the A revision does not.
  • Tilt-only stand: no height, swivel or pivot adjustment.
  • No independent instrumented test exists for this exact model.
  • The 0.5ms figure is MPRT; real GTG response lands at 1–3ms depending on source.
  • GTG response is unresolved: 1ms on the international sheet, 3ms on the US spec sheet.
  • Whether HDR10 does anything meaningful on a 250-nit panel is untested.

Response time: what 0.5ms actually means

Every listing leads with 0.5ms, but that is the MPRT figure, which measures perceived blur rather than actual pixel transition speed. The GTG number you probably care about is all over the map: the international VX2428 spec sheet says 1ms, the US VX2428A spec sheet and CDW say 3ms, and ViewSonic’s own US product page for the non-A VX2428 says 2.6ms. Treat real pixel response as somewhere in the 1–3ms range until someone measures this exact panel. For 1080p 180Hz play that is still quick, but it is not the same thing as the headline number.

A or non-A: check the revision

The VX2428A is the US-market variant of the VX2428 family, and it is different hardware from the international VX2428. The A revision drops the built-in speakers (the non-A has 2W × 2) and adds a second HDMI 1.4 port. Package contents differ by region too: the US VX2428A ships with an HDMI cable, the international VX2428 with a DisplayPort cable. There is also a VX2428J variant with height adjustment if you want a more flexible stand.

Stand, mounting and running costs

The stand tilts -5° to 20° and that is it — no height, swivel or pivot. A 100 × 100mm VESA mount means a third-party arm is the upgrade path. The external power supply keeps the chassis thin at 1.7 in without the stand, and typical draw is 24W, so running costs stay negligible. In the box you get the display, power cable, AC/DC adapter, HDMI cable and a quick start guide.

Is it worth it?

ViewSonic’s own store, CDW and B&H Photo list it at $109.99. At $90–110 the package is competitive for budget gaming: native 180Hz, FreeSync Premium, a 3-year warranty and VESA mounting. At $111–130 it stays fair, but monitors with verified test data and better stands start appearing. Above $130 the value weakens unless the warranty and ViewSonic service matter more than the missing speakers, the tilt-only stand and the total absence of independent measurements.

Which model this is

This page covers the ViewSonic VX2428A, UPC 766907028331, the US-market 24-inch 1080p 180Hz IPS gaming monitor. The Amazon listing is ASIN B0D84RFHJ3. Do not confuse it with the non-A VX2428, which has speakers and one fewer HDMI port, or the VX2428J, which adds height adjustment.
