ViewSonic Omni VX2718-PC-MHD 27-inch 1080P 1ms 165Hz Review

Summary

A 27-inch curved gaming monitor with 1080p resolution, 165Hz refresh rate via DisplayPort, and built-in speakers. Check the exact unit’s refresh rate before buying: marketing claims 200Hz but the original manual documents 165Hz.

Strengths

Three usable video sources with physical OSD buttons for switching
Higher nominal VA contrast than basic IPS panels
High-refresh gaming where supported by the unit
Adaptively synchronized frame presentation reduces tearing
Convenient budget extras with built-in speakers and included cables

Weaknesses

27-inch 1080p looks pixelated at close range (81.6 ppi)
Refresh rate claims conflict between marketing and manual
VA-panel transition behavior may show dark motion trails
Tilt-only stand lacks height, horizontal swivel or portrait rotation
No USB-C or USB hub connectivity
Brightness of 250 cd/m² struggles in sunlit rooms

Refresh rate confusion

The ViewSonic US page promotes 200Hz while introductory text says 180Hz, but the original English manual explicitly recommends 1920x1080 at 144Hz maximum via HDMI 1.4 and lists 165Hz via DisplayPort. B&H still markets 165Hz DP/144Hz HDMI. There is no confirmed serial-range/revision map or independent validated 200Hz test. Confirm the available modes on the exact unit using DisplayPort and its OSD/EDID; do not force an unsupported custom refresh rate.

US advertised prices checked October 30, 2026: ViewSonic US direct lists VX2718-PC-MHD at $159.99, B&H Photo at $159.99, Best Buy marketplace around $159.99 to $172.31, and Newegg at $159.99. Below $110 new with valid US factory warranty is excellent; $111–$130 is a strong budget deal. At $150–$160, the model is difficult to justify: ViewSonic currently lists 27-inch flat IPS 240Hz VX2726 at $159.99 and 27-inch QHD IPS 180Hz VX2728J-2K at $169.99, both manufacturer-direct in stock.

Running costs

Mandatory fees and subscriptions: $0/year identified. Video display and local OSD do not require an online account or paid subscription. No periodic consumable replacement is specified. Illustrative electricity: manufacturer lists 27W typical and 0.5W standby. At 8 active hours/day x 250 working days/year, consumption is 54 kWh/year, which is $10.80/year at an assumed $0.20/kWh. With the 17W Conserve preset, identical active hours use 34 kWh/$6.80, before standby.

Warranty and support

ViewSonic US standard monitor limited warranty: three years from purchase covering parts, labor and LCD backlight. US pixel policy for panels below 4K permits up to three improperly functioning pixels in total, no more than two bright or two dark pixels. DOA provision: brand-new products found non-operational within 30 days qualify for a new replacement and two-way freight coverage after validation. Ownership/claim process: ViewSonic online support, warranty lookup and RMA tracking are available from the manufacturer’s website.
