Summary
A three-channel dash cam with 4K up front, 1080P in the cabin and 2.5K at the rear, built on triple Sony STARVIS 2 sensors and powered by a supercapacitor. Check the storage card and the mount before you buy: a U3 Class 10 microSD up to 1TB is not included, and parking mode needs the separate hardwire kit.
Strengths
- Three Sony STARVIS 2 sensors cover the road, the cabin and the rear window at once.
- Supercapacitor power means no lithium battery to swell or overheat in a parked car.
- The separate GPS mount lets the adhesive bond for 24 hours before the camera goes on.
- Owners reviewing the cam on Vantrue’s own store praise day and night image quality.
- 5GHz WiFi speeds up file transfer, and the built-in GPS logs route and speed.
- Support is reachable by email, chat or phone during weekday hours.
Weaknesses
- No independent lab test of the exact N4 Pro S was found, so image quality rests on manufacturer claims.
- Owners complain the documentation is hard to follow, and ask for better written instructions.
- Several owners struggle with playback and saving video, which matters when you need footage quickly.
- One owner reports the LTE module never works, even after repeated resets.
- Parking mode needs the optional VP03 hardwire kit, which is sold separately.
- The screen size is inconsistent between the manual and the marketing: 3.19" against 2.5".

Image quality and night vision
The sensor set is the selling point: front IMX678, cabin IMX662 with 4 IR LEDs, and a waterproof IMX675 at the rear. Owners reviewing the cam on Vantrue’s store describe good recordings by day and by night. Vantrue’s PlatePix plate-reading feature is proprietary, and nobody has independently confirmed the claimed 1.5X sharper plate capture, so treat it as a marketing claim.
Car and Driver tested the closely related Vantrue N5S, which shares the same triple STARVIS 2 core technology, and found great build quality and consistent image quality, with highlights in check, shadows not mushed out and rather clean nighttime footage. That test also found blue fringing around license plates. No established test outlet has put the N4 Pro S itself through the same measurements, so low-light behaviour and GPS accuracy remain unverified for this model.
Power, heat and parking mode
The supercapacitor takes DC 5V 3A and 7W and replaces the lithium battery other dash cams use. That removes the swelling and overheating risk in a hot car, and the unit is rated to work from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C) and to be stored from -13°F to 158°F (-25°C to 70°C). The trade-off is that a supercapacitor can behave differently from a lithium battery on cold starts.
Twenty-four-hour parking surveillance is not built in. It requires the VP03 hardwire kit, which is not in the box and must be bought separately. Voice control is advertised in multiple languages, but no independent test has checked how well it works in a real car.
Storage and file handling
Recordings go to an external microSD card, and the manual requires U3 Class 10 media from 32GB up to 1TB. No card is included, so add one to the purchase. Video is written as MP4 with built-in audio.
File handling is the weakest part of the package. Owners report difficulty working out how to play back and save clips, especially under pressure, and the same owners single out the instruction manual as poor. Dual-band WiFi with 5GHz helps move footage off the camera faster than a 2.4GHz-only unit, and the manual carries troubleshooting steps for power faults, memory card errors, weak night vision, GPS positioning and WiFi connection.
Is it worth it?
Vantrue’s own store listed the N4 Pro S at $359.99 against a $469.99 regular price in November 2026. Under $350 is strong value for the coverage and the sensor hardware, $351 to $400 is fair, and above $401 the money is better spent elsewhere.
For comparison, the Vantrue N5S sits around $380 to $420 and adds a fourth rear cabin channel, while Car and Driver’s pick among premium dash cams, the Viofo A329S, was $370. The 70mai T800 costs less.
Which model this is
This page covers the N4 Pro S, which Vantrue’s storefront also calls the Nexus 4 Pro S. The manual lists the model as N4 Pro S. Do not confuse it with the N4 Pro, the N4 or the Nexus 5. The listing this page was built from is ASIN B0HCC4YCVV.
