Summary
A small, rugged mono Bluetooth speaker for pool, beach and travel, with a claimed 10-hour battery, IP67 waterproofing and a body that floats. The thing to check first is the single driver: there is no stereo from one unit, and its soundstage and dynamics are limited.
Strengths
- An IP67 body that floats, with an integrated hand loop for carrying.
- Battery life beats the claim: 14.5 hours measured against 10 hours rated.
- Balanced default tuning, with less recessed treble than the WONDERBOOM 4.
- Two units pair for stereo, and it holds two Bluetooth connections at once.
- A minimum of 68% post-consumer recycled plastic in the plastic parts.
- Type-C charging behind a weather door.
Weaknesses
- Mono and single-driver, so there is no stereo from one unit and the soundstage and dynamics are limited.
- Output is 2.5–5 W, well below the WONDERBOOM 4.
- No microphone, so it cannot be used as a speakerphone.
- No wall charger in the box.
- The manufacturer lists no spare parts, and the battery is not a user part.
- Dimensions, weight and warranty are not published for this model.

Sound
RTINGS’ instrumented test calls the default tuning fairly balanced and less recessed in the treble than the WONDERBOOM 4. The catch is the single driver: RTINGS reports a lackluster soundstage, limited dynamics and inconsistent audio, and its head-to-head puts the WONDERBOOM 4 ahead on soundstage and dynamics while frequency response and battery life stay similar. In r/Bluetooth_Speakers, owners in a “Wonderboom 4 or Play?” thread say the WONDERBOOM 4 is more powerful, pointing to the PLAY’s single 42 mm driver against the WONDERBOOM 4’s two 40 mm drivers. This is a design characteristic rather than a defect, and it is the reason the speaker is mono.
Battery, charging and durability
The manufacturer rates up to 10 hours; RTINGS measured 14.5 hours of continuous playback, so real runtime can beat the claim. Charging is over USB Type-C behind a weather door, and the EU listing says no wall charger is included, so you supply your own.
Repairs and parts
There is no repair story here. The manufacturer’s support page states there are no spare parts for this product, and no repairability documentation specific to the model is published. The WONDERBOOM 3 page lists a 2-year limited hardware warranty, which suggests a family norm but does not confirm the term for the PLAY, so treat the warranty as unverified. No owner-reported failure data specific to this model exists; older WONDERBOOM threads mention battery-disconnect issues, but those are not this model, so they are not counted as PLAY failures.
Is it worth it?
US reseller pricing sits near $95.56 (PCNation), while Wirecutter’s 2026 guide prices the WONDERBOOM 4 at $80. Ultimate Ears’ Australian page lists the speaker at A$99.95 and JB Hi-Fi lists it at A$99.95, with the NZ page at NZ$129.95, the EU page at €49.99 on sale and €59.99 regular, and the Swiss page at CHF 59.90. As a rough guide, around $70–80 or below is reasonable for a cheap, rugged, floating mono speaker; $80–100 is fair only if you accept mono output and want the small, light body; above $100 it is weak value against the WONDERBOOM 4.
