Summary
A small 4K Wi-Fi camera for indoor spaces that already run Ubiquiti’s Protect app, with an 8MP sensor, two-way audio and a microSD slot. Check two things before buying: there is no Ethernet port, and Ubiquiti publishes no Wi-Fi range or indoor/outdoor-use rating for this model.
Strengths
- 8MP 3840 × 2160 video at 30 FPS through a 109.9° horizontal fixed lens.
- Wi-Fi only, so it runs from the included 5V 2A USB-C adapter with no Ethernet run needed.
- Two-way audio plus a microSD slot for local recording.
- Support for person, vehicle, animal, face and license plate detection inside Protect.
- Small polycarbonate body at 180 g, with the wall mount and hardware in the box.
- Sits at the entry point of Ubiquiti’s 2025 G6 camera generation, so it drops into an existing Protect setup.
Weaknesses
- Wi-Fi 5 only and no Ethernet port; a wired install needs the separate PoE-to-USB-C adapter.
- Only one 2 m USB-C cable is included, which limits where the camera can sit.
- Night vision reaches 6 m (20 ft), so it will not cover a yard, driveway or large room.
- IPX5 is water resistance, and Ubiquiti publishes no indoor/outdoor-use row for this model; treat exposed outdoor use as unverified.
- No zoom, and no published Wi-Fi range or maximum bitrate.
- No independent test or owner report for this exact model was retrieved, so image quality and detection accuracy are unproven in the field.

Full research notes and sources
Which model this is
This page covers the Ubiquiti UniFi Protect G6 Instant, hardware model UVC-G6-INS, sold as the white UVC-G6-INS-W and the US retail package UVC-G6-INS-W-US. The Amazon listing for the seed is ASIN B0FD8BQF36. Ubiquiti’s store calls it “Camera G6 Instant” and the datasheet header reads “UniFi G6 Instant”; both are the same hardware. Don’t merge it with the G6 Entry, G6 Pro Entry, G6 180 or the older G4 Instant, which have different sensors, ratings and power.
Power, mounting and the network
The G6 Instant is a Wi-Fi camera, not a PoE camera. It draws up to 7W from the included 5V 2A USB-C adapter, connects over 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth, and has no Ethernet port. The included cable is 2 m, and Ubiquiti sells a longer 4.5M USB-C cable and a PoE-to-USB-C adapter separately for setups that need either. A wall mount and mounting hardware are in the box, but no desk stand, ceiling mount or pole mount.
Storage and the Protect app
The camera has one microSD card slot, so local recording is possible without a console. The store page also sells a high-capacity microSD card and lists a CloudKey+ console among its recommendations, but the capacity and endurance class the camera supports were not published on the pages read, and neither were Protect’s storage requirements or any cloud subscription cost. Confirm the storage path before buying. Detection features are marked supported for people, vehicles, animals, faces and license plates; the license-plate claim is notable on a camera with 20 ft of IR reach, and nothing read here explains the lighting or distance it needs.
Outdoor use
The datasheet lists IPX5 water resistance and an IK04 impact rating but no indoor/outdoor-use statement, unlike the G6 Entry page, which states indoor and outdoor use for its IP55 rating. The distributor listing nevertheless describes the camera as suitable for outdoor areas at risk of vandalism. IPX5 is water resistance, not weatherproofing, so treat exposed outdoor use as unverified.
Is it worth it?
At or below $179 a buyer already inside Protect gets a defensible small camera: 8MP, two-way audio, a microSD slot and a 1-year warranty, against Wi-Fi 5, a 2 m cable and 6 m of IR. Between $179 and the $209 pre-surcharge figure the same case holds. Above $209 it weakens, because PoE cameras with Ethernet and longer IR sit in that bracket.
Ubiquiti’s US store listed the camera at $179.00 on 2026-10-04, with $209.00 shown before surcharges, and its accessories at $49.00 for the PoE-to-USB-C adapter, $19.00 for the 4.5M USB-C cable, from $69.00 for the microSD card and $39.00 for UI Care 5-year coverage. A buyer who needs Ethernet, weather sealing or long-range night vision should look at a different model in the line.
The honest limit here is evidence. No independent instrumented test and no owner thread for this exact model were retrieved, so every specification above comes from Ubiquiti’s own datasheet and one distributor listing.
