Summary
The Typhur Dome 2 is a wide, low-profile 5.6 qt air fryer with dual heating, 15 presets, app control and a self-cleaning cycle, aimed at households that cook flat food in a single layer. Check your counter and your menus before buying: the 19.7 × 15.6 in footprint is large, and the 2.3 in basket rules out tall foods and whole chickens.
Strengths
- The 139.5 sq in basket cooks a 12-inch pizza or a full layer of wings in a single pass.
- WIRED measured the chamber holding within 10°F of target, with wings done in 14 minutes at 400°F.
- The PFAS-free ceramic nonstick basket and grill plate both go in the dishwasher.
- A monthly self-cleaning cycle handles the greasy interior without scrubbing.
- Fifteen presets, app control and probe support cover most countertop cooking.
- Owners on Trustpilot call it exceptionally quiet and praise the extra-large cooking area.
Weaknesses
- The basket is 2.3 in high — no whole chickens and no tall foods.
- Self-clean, bake, dehydrate, roast and Steak are app-only, so a Wi-Fi outage disables them.
- RTINGS flags slow preheat, slow heat recovery after opening the drawer, and low maximum fan speed.
- Tech Advisor measured 59–60 dB of noise against the 51 dB Typhur claims.
- The 19.7 × 15.6 in, 20 lb body demands serious counter space.
- The base warranty is 1 year; the advertised 18 months requires registration within 30 days.

The wide basket is the whole story
The Dome 2’s argument is geometry. The 5.6 qt basket offers 139.5 square inches of cooking area but stands only 2.3 in high, so food cooks in a single layer instead of a pile. WIRED measured the basket at 12.6 × 12.6 × 2 in: a 12-inch pizza fits flat, while a whole chicken has to be spatchcocked first. Tech Advisor inspected Typhur’s claim of up to 32 wings in a single layer and found it held up, and fries needed no shaking because the air reaches everything directly. Bacon crisps well, the fat that collects at the bottom of the basket is reusable, heat vents out the back so the case does not get overly hot, and cooking smells stay inside.
Owners echo the trade-off. An r/airfryer owner does a full 12-inch pizza with no problems but calls the shallow basket the one thing they dislike. Parchment liners are a fitting nuisance: owners report most top out around 8–9 in, nowhere near the 12.6 in square basket. The Reddit aggregation at RedditRecs shows 95% positive sentiment (last updated September 22, 2026), though it may pool generations — treat it as a sentiment signal, not a defect count.
The cooking evidence is stronger than most appliances at this price. WIRED tracked the chamber with a ThermoPro TempSpike Pro and found it held within 10°F of target, and wings finished in 14 minutes at 400°F, about four minutes faster than the other basket fryers it compared. RTINGS scored it 7.5/10, with most of each batch crispy and well-browned, and gave it 8.2 for large-batch cooking and 8.7 for capacity in its large-air-fryer roundup. Its complaints: slow preheat, slow heat recovery after you open the drawer, and a low maximum fan speed. Tech Advisor’s verdict summed up the trade-off: worth it if you have the space.
Noise and app dependence
Typhur claims 51 dB of operating noise. Tech Advisor measured 59–60 dB and likened it to a refrigerator humming, while WIRED’s spec block spans 30–55 dB and its reviewer could not hear the fan standing by the fridge. Treat 51 dB as a manufacturer best case.
Several functions depend on the app. On the unit WIRED tested, self-clean, bake, dehydrate, roast and the Steak preset are app-only, so a Wi-Fi outage takes those functions with it. The flip side is a safety rule Typhur states and WIRED confirmed: the app cannot start cooking remotely; you press Start on the device itself. The app also carries recipe features and works with compatible Typhur probes.
Check the variant before you buy, because the button layout differs. On the AF03, Grill sits on the device and Dehydrate in the app; on the AF05 they swap, and self-clean is Grill + Reheat on the AF03 but Dehydrate + Reheat on the AF05. WIRED also griped that neither the panel nor the app shows which burner is active or the fan speed for a given setting.
Self-cleaning, parts and warranty
The self-cleaning cycle is the one maintenance task with a time cost: Tech Advisor timed it at a couple of hours, and the manual recommends running it about monthly, more often after oil-rich cooking. Typhur says the cycle decomposes grease into water vapor and carbon dioxide, and WIRED treats it as a monthly backup because everyday wiping is easy on the PFAS-free ceramic nonstick. The basket and grill plate go in the dishwasher; the manual forbids metal utensils and abrasives.
Running costs stay low. There are no consumables and no pods — just electricity and cleaning supplies. Typhur sells a $29.00 grill plate, a $12.99 preset-guide magnet and a replacement basket or drawer tray, but no heater, fan motor or control board, and the manual sends all non-routine servicing to authorized service.
The warranty needs paperwork. Coverage is 1 year by default and extends to 18 months if you register within 30 days of purchase; a Typhur Dome owner group on Facebook has posts about the registration form rejecting a legitimate purchase, so confirm yours actually posted. Among owner reports on Trustpilot, one Dome 2 stopped working mid-cook after the tray was pulled out to flip food and was fixed under warranty (December 2025), while another owner says the self-clean cycle left drips baked into the drawer tray’s ceramic finish and ordered a spare (January 2026). Coating durability is an open question: in r/AirFryers a prospective buyer asked owners directly whether their coating had lasted, and unverified YouTube comment reports describe ceramic coating degrading under normal soap use and a promised replacement basket that took a year to arrive. Nobody has published a failure rate, so treat this as an unanswered question rather than a known defect.
Is it worth it?
At $339.99 for the AF05 on Typhur’s own site (October 2026), the Dome 2 is defensible for a household with the counter space that batch-cooks flat food in volume — wings, pizzas, bacon, fries. At $390.00 for the AF03 the case narrows, because Typhur states both variants deliver the same core cooking performance and the gap buys a different finish plus app-based fan-speed control. An AF05 with the Sync One probe bundles at $379.98. If your counter is tight or you roast whole birds and tall dishes, this is the wrong shape of cooker regardless of quality. The independent support is real — WIRED 8/10, RTINGS 7.5/10, Tech Advisor’s Editors’ Choice — unusual for a first-party brand at this price. Owners on r/Typhur pass around recurring promo codes; a recent community-posted code took 10% off, so the direct price is soft.
Which model this is
Typhur sells the Dome 2 in two variants. The AF03 is Classic Silver and black; the AF05 is Graphite Gray and black and adds app-based fan-speed control in Air Fry mode. Typhur states both deliver the same core cooking performance — dual heating, self-cleaning, 15 cooking functions — with identical core specs. This page covers the Dome 2 Large AI Smart Air Fryer, ASIN B0CKP6Y6KB. Do not confuse it with the Typhur Sync Air Fryer or Typhur Sync Oven, which are separate products.
