Summary

A fully clad tri-ply stainless steel set that covers the everyday pans: two fry pans, two covered sauce pans and a covered Dutch oven. Check the lid material and the oven rating before you buy, because the stainless-lid Signature set and the glass-lid Tri-Ply Clad line are different products.

Strengths

  • Consumer Reports tested this exact model and rated it third of 27 stainless steel sets.
  • The same test gave it excellent cooking evenness and excellent handle sturdiness.
  • Good Housekeeping singled it out for value, citing even heating, heat retention and cool handles.
  • Serious Eats found the skillet performs about the same as an All-Clad D3 in head-to-head tests.
  • Fully clad walls spread heat from the sides, not just the base.
  • A lifetime warranty and NSF certification back the set.

Weaknesses

  • The 10-inch skillet discolored over high heat and repeated use in Good Housekeeping’s lab.
  • A large amount of food crashes the pan temperature faster than in thicker pans.
  • Handles are utilitarian, and a 2026 comparison says they are one that nobody praises.
  • Reddit owners report mixed experiences with newer Tramontina production.
  • Handwashing is recommended to preserve the mirror-polished finish, despite the dishwasher-safe rating.

Heat and cooking performance

Consumer Reports tested the exact 80116/247DS set and ranked it third of 27 stainless steel cookware sets, with excellent cooking evenness, very good handle temperature, very good speed of heating and excellent simmering. Good Housekeeping gave the Tri-Ply Clad line its value nod and found steak browned evenly, handles stayed cool after 15 minutes of simmering and the Dutch oven boiled water in under 18 minutes on gas and induction. Serious Eats found the Tramontina pan fairly identical to an All-Clad D3 in head-to-head skillet tests, and The Rational Kitchen calls it the closest All-Clad D3 match on the market.

Heat is even, but retention has limits. Century Life notes that a large piece of food, such as a steak, pulls the pan temperature down more than a thicker pan would, which costs you browning time.

Discoloration, warping and warranty

The finish is the main long-term caution. These are individual reports, not a measured failure rate.

The lifetime warranty covers defects in material and workmanship for the original household buyer. Tramontina’s care page confirms it covers warping under normal use and handle defects, and one documented warping claim was settled without charge.

Care

Preheat gradually over medium heat and skip high heat, which is unnecessary and can cause sticking, burning and discoloration. Let a hot pan cool before washing so thermal shock does not warp it, and hand wash with warm water and mild detergent. For protein stains or rainbow discoloration, boil vinegar and water in the pan.

Is it worth it?

At or under about $220 this is a strong value: fully clad tri-ply construction, Consumer Reports-verified evenness, induction compatibility, NSF certification and a lifetime warranty, for roughly half the price of an All-Clad D3. Tramontina lists the 8-piece set at $249.95, and Consumer Reports indexed it at $219.66 in 2021. Macy’s listed the same set at $418.00, where the value weakens unless you specifically need this configuration.
