Summary
Check which hardware version you are receiving: published specs vary between revisions, with the current V3.0/V3.6 datasheet listing better night vision and frame rates than older pages.
Strengths
- RTSP and ONVIF support officially documented, making it usable with third-party NVRs and surveillance software.
- microSD local storage up to 512 GB without a subscription.
- AI person and motion detection with activity zones included.
- Google Assistant and Alexa integration.
- Continued firmware updates, including stability fixes for ONVIF/NAS connections.
Weaknesses
- No Ethernet port; connects only via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Published specs vary by hardware revision — night vision range, frame rate and lens aperture differ between older and current versions.
- Not weather-rated; indoor use only, and the sensor is explicitly “Not Starlight Sensor.”
- RTSP requires a separate camera account, and local storage, cloud and NAS/NVR recording cannot all run simultaneously.
- Frigate autotracking is not supported due to continuous-move-only ONVIF PTZ.
- One-year warranty with factory-refurbished replacements and no extension on RMA.

Hardware versions and spec drift
TP-Link publishes five hardware versions (V1, V1.80, V2.26, V2.60, V3.60) with separate firmware and manuals. The current 2025 datasheet for V3.0/V3.6 hardware lists 40 ft night vision, an f/2.0 lens and up to 30 fps, while older product pages and a community database say 30 ft, f/2.4 and 15 fps. Night-vision range, lens aperture, frame rate and microSD capacity all differ between revisions. Confirm which hardware version you are receiving before comparing specifications.
RTSP, ONVIF and third-party use
TP-Link officially documents RTSP on port 554 (stream1 = high quality, stream2 = standard) and ONVIF Profile S on port 2020. Both require creating a dedicated camera account inside the Tapo app, distinct from the main TP-Link ID. Local SD storage, Tapo Care cloud and NAS/NVR recording cannot all run simultaneously — if all three are enabled, NAS/NVR/ONVIF is automatically disabled. A community-verified Frigate configuration exists, but Frigate autotracking does not work because the C210 supports only continuous-move ONVIF PTZ with no reliable absolute positioning. Community reports indicate the proprietary go2rtc protocol may offer fewer timeouts than RTSP for Home Assistant users.
Firmware, reliability and support
TP-Link continues to ship firmware updates for the C210 V3.6, with the latest observed build 260818. Firmware 1.2.5 (build 260115) explicitly fixed disconnection issues when working with ONVIF clients/NAS, indicating earlier firmware had documented stability problems. Firmware 1.2.3 fixed background noise during SD card playback. TP-Link’s support pages document SD card formatting and playback issues as known troubleshooting topics. The camera is not user-serviceable; the practical repair path is TP-Link’s RMA program, which requires registration at myproducts.tp-link.com and a support call, with the customer paying return shipping. The warranty is one year for units purchased after September 2023, and replacements are typically factory-refurbished without a warranty extension.
Is it worth it?
The main trade-offs are the hardware-version spec drift, the indoor-only design and the one-year warranty. If you need a pan/tilt camera that plays nicely with third-party NVR software or Home Assistant, the RTSP/ONVIF support makes it practical. If you want outdoor coverage, look elsewhere — there is no IP rating. Confirm the hardware version you are receiving, as night vision and frame rate differ between revisions.
Which model this is
This page covers the TP-Link Tapo C210 Pan/Tilt Home Security Wi-Fi Camera, released 2021. Sold as 1-pack and 2-pack. The Amazon listing is ASIN B08ZNTM1X1. Do not confuse it with the similar C200, C211, C220 or other Tapo pan/tilt cameras. TP-Link’s official RTSP/ONVIF documentation lists the C210 among its supported smart cameras.
