SUNLU FilaDryer S2: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-19
Summary
The FilaDryer S2 is a compact single-spool filament dryer with 360° heating, a 4.6-inch touchscreen and a 35-70°C range; it dries effectively and runs quietly, but the chamber is not airtight, so owners report recirculated moisture and humidity readings that can climb unless the lid is opened periodically. Running costs are minimal — a rated 48 W at most and 0.05 W on standby — and at the SUNLU store’s 2026 sale prices of $44.99-$60.99 it is a reasonable buy for drying one spool at a time.
Common problems and fixes
- Moisture recirculates in the non-airtight chamber — owners report the displayed relative humidity climbing (one watched it go from 51% to 70%) or failing to drop below about 40% until they open the lid; the fix is to prop the lid open for a few minutes every hour, which turns drying into an active chore rather than a defect. The one-year limited warranty covers normal-operation failures. [7][9][10]
- Filament feed from the dryer can be fiddly — one owner reported a PETG feed problem when feeding from the S2 to a printer. [8]
- ER1/ER2 temperature-probe fault codes — the manual documents these for poor probe contact; reconnecting the probes clears them. [3]
- Early S2 units shipped without an internal fan — an early revision had no fan, so air exchange was poor; later revisions add one, and buyers cannot assume every “S2” has a fan. [6]
- Dark-tinted lid hides the spool — remaining filament is hard to see from a distance. [6]
Parts and consumables
SUNLU does not publish a spare-parts catalog or teardown for the S2.
Yearly running cost
The S2 draws a rated 48 W at most and 0.05 W on standby, so even long drying cycles cost pennies in electricity. That estimate comes from the rated power figures rather than a meter reading.
When it is a good buy
At the SUNLU store’s 2026 promotional pricing — sale prices of $44.99-$60.99 against a $79.99 reference list price — the S2 is an inexpensive way to stop wasting wet filament; a 2022 hands-on review had it at $80 or less. It is a weaker buy if you need fully dried, highly hygroscopic filament without manual venting: a food dehydrator, or a dryer with active ventilation such as the Creality Space Pi compared with the S2 in a community bake-off, does the job with less attention.
