Summary
A budget two-spool filament dryer that heats to a maximum of 50 °C and doubles as a sealed storage box. Check your materials before you buy: the 50 °C ceiling suits PLA and PETG, and Sovol’s own buying guide rules the SH01 out for ABS, ASA, nylon and PC.
Strengths
- Heats two 1 kg spools at once on a 40 W convection heater with a built-in fan.
- Doubles as a sealed storage box when unplugged, with closable PTFE outlets.
- The 6-12 h timer and 2-inch LCD show temperature, humidity and remaining time.
- Silicone sealing and PTFE outlets suit 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm filament.
- Sovol’s US warranty policy covers filament dryers for 1 year.
- Reddit owners report the base 6 h cycle keeps PLA dry with no recurring wet-filament issues.
Weaknesses
- The 50 °C ceiling cannot dry ABS, ASA, nylon or PC — Sovol’s own buying guide says so.
- Desiccant is not included; Sovol suggests buying four bags separately.
- The top PTFE plugs must stay open during heating or moisture cannot escape.
- In a room under 16 °C the box may never reach 50 °C.
- One Reddit owner replaced a failed stock fan with an aftermarket unit; how often this happens is unknown.
- No instrumented test of this model exists — no measured temperature accuracy, humidity decay or noise figures.

Drying performance and what owners report
No instrumented test of this exact model exists. The specialist coverage is All3DP’s comparison table, which lists the SH01 at 50 °C and two spools, plus a mods article — roundups, not measurements. Nobody has published internal temperature accuracy, humidity decay rates or a noise figure in dB.
Owner evidence is thin but generally positive on PLA. In r/Sovol, one owner runs the base 6 h cycle and reports no recurring wet-filament issues and being very happy with the unit. In r/3Dprinting, owners say Sovol dryers work well enough for PETG and ABS despite the 50 °C limit. A 2021 Sovol forum thread has staff confirming the 50 °C maximum and the convection-plus-desiccant design.
Sovol’s blog claims both the SH01 and SH02 are quiet enough for home use; that is a first-party claim, not a measurement. The one concrete failure account is a Reddit owner who replaced a failed stock fan with an aftermarket ANVISION unit, saying “sans the fan failure, it worked pretty well as is”. That is one owner, not a failure rate. Error codes E0 and E1 point at motherboard connections: Sovol’s FAQ tells owners to check the cable sockets and contact support for a replacement rather than offering a user fix.
The 50 °C ceiling
The 50 °C maximum is the number that should drive the purchase. Sovol’s own buying guide says the 40-50 °C range suits PLA and lower-temperature materials and tells buyers whose workflow needs nylon, PC, ABS or ASA to look at the SH02 or SH03 instead. All3DP’s table shows the same ceiling.
For a PLA or PETG hobbyist this is fine. For anyone drying engineering materials it is a hard stop. That is not a defect report. No pattern of seal or electronics failures or warranty disputes appears in owner sources.
Desiccant, plugs and cold rooms
The box ships empty of desiccant; Sovol suggests adding four bags, so budget for them on top of the purchase. There is no consumable lock-in beyond that and the 40 W power draw. The four PTFE plugs on top must be opened during heating for moisture to escape; with them closed the box is a storage box, not a dryer. A Reddit owner notes Sovol also recommends propping the lid with the built-in clips during drying.
The humidity reading on the LCD is a sensor figure for reference, not a controlled setpoint. A Newegg listing adds an ambient caveat: in a room under 16 °C the box will not reach 50 °C, though it says the drying effect is not reduced.
Maintenance is light. Open the plugs during heating, run as sealed storage with desiccant when idle, clean as needed. There is no water path, so nothing to descale.
Is it worth it?
Sovol’s US store lists the SH01 at $39.99 on sale against a $59.00 regular price, with the collection page starting at $35.99 (Sovol, 2026). At that price it is a reasonable budget pick for PLA and PETG drying plus sealed two-spool storage, covered by a 1-year warranty that requires proof of purchase and an unmodified product. The EU store runs a parallel sale at 38.99 EUR against 59.00 EUR regular, and sovol.tech lists the dryer at $59.99.
At $59 or more the case weakens. The SH02 adds 70 °C, 150 W PTC heating and a 3.9-inch touchscreen for $59.99 at the same US store, so paying the SH01’s regular price means paying it for a machine capped at 50 °C. All3DP’s 2022 comparison listed the SH01 at $45, so the sale price undercuts its own history only slightly.
If ABS, ASA, nylon or PC ever enter the workflow, the ceiling — not the build — is the problem, and the next step up is the SH02.
Which model this is
This page covers the Sovol SH01, model number SV-SH01-1 per the manual. It is the budget entry in Sovol’s dryer line — below the SH02 (70 °C, 150 W, 3.9-inch touchscreen), the SH03 (4 spools, 85 °C) and the SH04 — and Sovol positions it as the 50 °C two-spool model. The US marketplace listing for this dryer is ASIN B09686Z5R3, titled “Sovol Filament Dryer 2025/2026, SH01 Filament Dehydrator 3D Printer Spool Holder with Upgraded Fan”; the “Upgraded Fan” wording marks a later revision of the original 2021 design, and what changed beyond even heating is not documented.
