Sovol SH01: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
The SH01’s defining limit is its 50 °C ceiling: it dries PLA and PETG but cannot handle ABS, ASA, nylon or PC. Keeping it running costs only the 40 W heater and replacement desiccant bags, with no consumable lock-in. It is a good buy around its $39.99 sale price from the Sovol US store (2026) if you only dry PLA and PETG, and weak value at $59 or more.
Common problems and fixes
- Stock fan failure — one Reddit owner replaced a failed stock fan with an aftermarket ANVISION unit (7.56 CFM, 6200 RPM, 27.50 dBA) and said “sans the fan failure, it worked pretty well as is”; that is one owner, not a failure rate. [11] Fix: replace the fan; the 1-year warranty may cover it. [5]
- 50 °C ceiling cannot dry engineering materials — Sovol’s own buying guide says the 40-50 °C range suits PLA and lower-temperature materials and tells buyers who need nylon, PC, ABS or ASA to look at the SH02 or SH03; All3DP’s comparison table shows the same ceiling. [4][10] Fix: use it for PLA/PETG only, or step up to a hotter dryer.
- E0/E1 error codes — the screen shows E0 or E1 for motherboard connection problems; Sovol’s FAQ says to check the motherboard cable sockets and contact Sovol for a replacement rather than offering a user fix. [1][9] Fix: check the connectors, then use the 1-year warranty. [5]
- Cold-room ceiling — a Newegg listing states that in a room under 16 °C the box will not reach 50 °C, though it says the drying effect is not reduced. [12] Fix: run it in a warmer room if you need the full temperature.
- PTFE plugs closed during heating — the four PTFE outlet plugs on top must be opened during heating for moisture to escape; with them closed the box is a storage box, not a dryer. [1][12] Fix: open the plugs, and Sovol recommends propping the lid with the built-in clips during drying. [11]
- Desiccant not included — the box ships empty of desiccant and Sovol suggests buying four bags separately. [1][12] Fix: budget for desiccant on top of the dryer.
Parts and consumables
Yearly running cost
The only recurring costs are the 40 W heater and desiccant bags; Sovol says there is no consumable lock-in beyond that. A 6-12 h cycle runs on 40 W, but no electricity rate is given in the sources, so no dollar figure can be computed. Desiccant is not included and Sovol suggests four bags, with no price in the sources. The 1-year warranty covers the dryer itself. [1][5][12] Not enough data for a yearly dollar total.
When it is a good buy
At the Sovol US store in 2026, the SH01 is on sale at $39.99 against a $59.00 regular price, with the collection page starting at $35.99. Sovol’s EU store runs a parallel sale at 38.99 EUR against 59.00 EUR regular, and sovol.tech lists it at $59.99. All3DP’s 2022 comparison listed it at $45. [1][7][8][9][10]
Around $39.99 it is a reasonable budget pick for PLA and PETG drying plus sealed two-spool storage, covered by the 1-year warranty. At $59 or more the case weakens: the Sovol SH02 adds 70 °C, 150 W PTC heating and a 3.9-inch touchscreen for $59.99 at the same US store. [7]
- Stay with the SH01 if you only dry PLA or PETG and want a sealed two-spool storage box.
- Move to the SH02 ($59.99, 70 °C, 150 W PTC, 3.9-inch touchscreen) if you need to dry ABS, ASA, nylon or PC, or want a touchscreen. [7]
- Move to the SH03 (4 spools, 85 °C) if you need more than two spools at once. [4]
