Summary
A pocket-sized, waterproof Bluetooth speaker for the shower, backpack and pool, with a claimed 20-hour battery and stereo pairing when you buy two matching units. Check the hardware version before you buy a pair: the Bluetooth 6.0 unit and the older Bluetooth 5.4 unit look identical and cannot be paired together.
Strengths
- Floats and is immersible to 3.3 ft (1 m) for 30 minutes, so it handles the shower and the pool.
- Battery life is long for the size: 10 hours continuous at RTINGS’ test volume and 25 hours 21 minutes in TechGearLab’s test.
- Two matching units pair for stereo, a real differentiator at this price.
- The 9-band EQ in the Soundcore app can add bass and shape the sound.
- At about 263 g it is small enough to drop in a bag, and a loop is built in.
Weaknesses
- Bass is thin and volume is modest; every independent test finds it better for podcasts than for music.
- The older Bluetooth 5.4 unit and the newer Bluetooth 6.0 unit look identical and cannot be TWS-paired together.
- There is no microphone, no AUX input and no charge-out, so it cannot take calls or feed a wired source.
- It can sound sharp at its highest volumes and is not loud enough for a group.
- One owner reported the battery degrading after a little over a year, though that is a single report.

Battery, sound and volume
Anker claims up to 20 hours at 40% volume on the 2400 mAh battery, and a full charge takes about 4 hours. Independent measurements split widely with test volume: RTINGS got 10 hours of continuous playback, while TechGearLab measured 25 hours 21 minutes, about 83.7 dB of output and a 136 ft Bluetooth range. Digital Trends saw 20 hours at 50% volume, dropping to about 16-17 hours at louder levels. Treat the 20-hour figure as a moderate-volume claim rather than a fixed number.
Sound is the trade-off. Every independent test finds the bass thin and the output modest, best suited to podcasts and casual listening rather than bass-heavy music or parties. RTINGS calls it good for podcasts because the mid-range is balanced. The 9-band EQ in the Soundcore app can add bass and shape the sound, but it cannot overcome the size limit.
Owners in a long-term Reddit thread call it thoroughly pleasing for a $30 speaker and report 70-80 hours of shower use with no wear. RedditRecs aggregates owner sentiment at 86% positive and ranks it ninth among the portable Bluetooth speakers it tracks.
The hardware version trap
The Select 4 Go ships in two hardware versions that look identical. The newer unit runs Bluetooth 6.0 with LE Audio, ultra-low-latency ISOAL and adaptive packet scheduling; the older one runs Bluetooth 5.4. Soundcore says the two cannot be TWS-paired together, so a stereo pair must be same-version. Check the serial number: the 7th character is “C” for the new version and “0” or “1” for the old one, and app firmware 4.x.x indicates the new version.
Durability and running costs
The speaker is a sealed fabric-and-rubber unit with no user-serviceable parts and no repair program. The rubber feet pull off easily, and a Reddit owner noticed the silicone legs wearing away. Running costs are essentially none: it charges over USB-C and has no consumables. Warranty is listed at 18 months by distributor and soundcore Philippines sources, and the exact US term should be confirmed at purchase.
Is it worth it?
At about $20-25 it is strong value for a shower, podcast or travel speaker, where the thin bass and mono output are acceptable. At $35 it is fair value: it competes on battery life, waterproofing and the TWS pair rather than raw sound, so compare it with the JBL Clip 5 and JBL Go 4. Above about $40 it is weak for sound-first buyers, since the JBL Clip 5 is more powerful at 7 W, though with less battery life. The TWS pair is the genuine differentiator at low cost, but both units must be the same hardware version.
