Sony SRS-XB43: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-20

Summary

The SRS-XB43 is a 6.5 lb (2,950 g) party speaker that owners like for volume, IP67 sealing and a 24-hour claimed battery (up to 14 hours with the lights on in EXTRA BASS), and complain about for weight, Bluetooth dropouts, and battery or charging faults on aging units. Running cost is electricity plus, eventually, one battery pack, since there is no subscription, filter or accessory lock-in, so a yearly dollar figure is not enough data. Because the model is discontinued and Sony replaced it with the ULT FIELD series, it is worth buying only well below its $249.99 launch MSRP (2020), around or under the $149 average new stock listed by Tom’s Tek Stop in 2024.

Yearly running cost

Not enough data for a yearly dollar figure, because there is no subscription, no filter, no pod and no accessory lock-in; the money an owner puts in goes into electricity and, eventually, one battery pack. What the sources do pin down:

When it is a good buy

The value case is a used or clearance unit, because the model is discontinued and Sony replaced it with the ULT FIELD series. Price anchors, none of them a live store listing:

At around $149, the average new stock figure from 2024, it is a buy: you still get IP67, the 24-hour claimed battery, the USB-A output at 5 V / 1 A for charging a phone, Party Connect for up to 100 speakers, a user-replaceable battery, and Sony’s one-year parts and labor warranty on a new unit. [1][17][13][16]

Between $149 and $220 it is fair, and worth it only if you want the size, the lights and the 100-speaker Party Connect. Keep the sound and the battery in mind while shopping: the bass-forward tuning is not for accuracy seekers, and playback came out closer to 15 hours in one RTINGS comparison, with Sony’s own claim dropping to 14 hours when the lights run in EXTRA BASS. [10][1]

At $249.99 and above it is weak value. Newer speakers ship Bluetooth 5.3, better codecs and a warranty that is still supported, while the XB43’s 6.5 lb weight and 5-hour charge work against it. [1][10]
