Sound, bass and surround

Reviews agree the bar delivers very clear dialogue and a wide, exciting soundstage with Sound Field processing on, and gets loud for its size. 360 Spatial Sound Mapping creates 5 phantom speakers, but those are not physical rear channels, and the bar lacks height impact with Atmos on its own. Deep bass is the recurring gap: the bar has no built-in subwoofer, and even the optional Sub 7 contributes little below about 50 Hz. Horizontal (flat) placement sounded better than vertical in reviewer testing.

Controls and app

There are no on-bar controls and no status display; feedback comes through two LEDs and the Bravia Connect app, which reviewers found temperamental. There is no graphic EQ, no bass or treble adjustment and no channel-level trims, so you cannot tune the sound beyond the built-in modes. On-screen menus and Voice Zoom 3 require a compatible BRAVIA TV.

Connectivity and BRAVIA integration

The bar offers 1x HDMI eARC and 1x HDMI 2.1 input with 4K/120 Hz passthrough, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6.0, Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay. There are no optical or analogue inputs, and no Google Cast, DLNA, Tidal Connect, hi-res Bluetooth codecs, wireless headphone connection, USB or UPnP playback. BRAVIA TV owners get on-screen control, Voice Zoom 3 dialogue enhancement and Auto HDR Tone Mapping with a PlayStation 5. The bar can be oriented vertically or horizontally.

Is it worth it?

At about $868 for the bar alone, reviewers rate value average because of weak bass and limited controls; the bar plus Sub 7 at roughly $1,099 to $1,196 is more competitive. Optional extras run $328 to $329 for the Sub 7 and $898 for the Sub 9, with Rear 8 speakers at £224.50 in the UK. All-in-one rivals cited by reviewers include the Samsung QS90H at $999 and the Klipsch Flexus Core 200. Prices vary by seller and date.

Which model this is

Do not confuse it with the BRAVIA Theater Bar 5, 6, 8 or 9, or older HT-A series models. Manufacturer specifications such as power output, frequency response and warranty terms could not be verified because the Sony product page and manual were inaccessible during research, so figures here come from retailer and review sources.
