Summary
A large dual-sided diamond sharpening stone for hand-sharpening kitchen and pocket knives, with a coarse 325-grit face and an extra-fine 1000-grit face.
Strengths
- Large 8 × 3 in surface for the money.
- The diamond surface needs no flattening, unlike a water stone.
- 3-year warranty, longer than many competitors offer.
- Angle Pyramid guide covers four fixed angles out of the box.
- One owner tested it on six knives and reported strong value.
- Works dry or with honing oil, so there is no water-stone routine.
Weaknesses
- Ships without a storage case; the optional 160H base is sold separately.
- No independent instrumented test exists, so the specs are unverified by a lab.
- Diamond plating wear is the eventual failure mode, and no lifespan data exists.
- Using water is ruled out, which breaks the usual water-stone habit.
- Thin owner coverage means the absence of complaints is not proof of reliability.

Sharpening routine and upkeep
Use the stone dry or with honing oil; do not use water on it. Wipe the surface clean after use and clear off metal particles before putting it away. The diamond surface does not need flattening or lapping, so there is no flattening plate to buy. Diamond plating wear is the eventual failure mode, but no expected plating life has been published. An optional 160H storage base fits the stone, and the 162N case will hold it if you place the anti-slip pad on top.
What owners report
One r/sharpening owner tested the 168H on six knives, a mix of high carbon and stainless, and called the stone “unreal” with “incredible” value for money. Coverage is thin, so read the silence as limited data rather than a reliability guarantee.
Is it worth it?
Sharpal’s own store lists the 168H at $44.99 (2026) and Chef Knives To Go lists it at $45.00 (2026). Under $50 it is a solid value: a large surface, no flattening upkeep and a 3-year warranty. From $51-65 it is fair, and worth comparing against other 8 × 3 in diamond plates. Above $65 the value weakens, and stones with longer track records become the safer pick unless you specifically want this ecosystem.
Which model this is
This is the 168H, the 325/1000 grit variant without a storage case, UPC 814744020992. Don’t confuse it with the 169H (220/600), the 163N (220/600) or the 162N (325/1200), which share the form factor but not the grits.
The Amazon listing is ASIN B0F9Y73NXL.
