Shark Pet Cordless Stick Vacuum IX141: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-19

Summary

The recurring issues are severe ultrafine dust escape (RTINGS measured PM2.5 at 410.0 μg/m³), hair wrapping around a brushroll that does not pop out, brushroll stalls on plush rugs, and suction loss after about two years that usually traces to clogged filters or tubing. Consumables are washable filters, so a typical year costs roughly $0.73 in electricity if filters are cleaned, or $34.71 if both genuine filters are replaced once. At $149.99-$169.99 it is a reasonable secondary vacuum for hard floors and visible pet hair; above $175, compare sealed HEPA or self-cleaning-head models, and at $250-$300 this low-filtration configuration is poor value.

Yearly running cost

If the washable filters stay intact and cleanable, scheduled replacements cost $0 beyond tap water and electricity. The manufacturer’s IX140/IZ140 guide requires rinsing the foam and felt pre-motor filters at least monthly and the post-motor filter at least yearly, with water only and at least 24 hours air drying. If both genuine filter components are replaced once a year despite no fixed requirement, the illustrative annual spend is $16.99 + $16.99 = $33.98 before tax and postage. For electricity, assuming a full charging cycle draws 70 Wh at the wall performed once per week for 52 weeks at an assumed $0.20/kWh, annual energy is 0.070 kWh x 52 = 3.64 kWh and the bill is $0.73 per year. The 70 Wh figure is an illustration, not Shark’s published battery capacity or a measured charge consumption. An illustrative annual budget with both filters replaced yearly is therefore $33.98 + $0.73 = $34.71, excluding optional tools, shipping, tax and unscheduled battery or nozzle failure. If filters are cleaned and reused, the same illustrative operating cost drops to about $0.73 in energy plus cleaning water. There is no subscription, soap cartridge or consumable dustbag for normal dry cleaning, and the manufacturer prohibits soap on filters. [2][3][10][11]

When it is a good buy

Observed U.S. retail web listings checked October 11, 2026 for the exact IX141, tax and shipping not included: SharkNinja official Blue Iris IX141 displayed $149.99 promotional versus a $299.99 crossed-out reference price, with another crawl of the same site showing $169.99. Home Depot gray IX141 (internet product 313118436) showed $149.99 promotional versus $299.99 reference, with another session showing $299.99 without promotion. Best Buy Blue Iris IX141 (SKU 6359269) showed $169.99 against a $299.99 comparable price. Target’s lavender IX141H at $299.99 is a different variant with advertised HEPA complete-seal and must not be treated as the IX141. Walmart listings can mix restored, open-box, third-party marketplace and new units; one new marketplace offer showed $179.99 in a July snapshot. Observed active lower advertised offers run roughly $149.99-$169.99 against the promoted $299.99 reference. [1][4][5][16][21]

Editorial thresholds, not claims of an actual past lowest sale: $115 or less new is excellent for secondary floor and fur cleanup if air filtration is not a concern; $115-$150 is good; $150-$175 is reasonable when cordless convenience is a priority. Above $175, compare sealed HEPA or newer self-cleaning-head models; at $250-$300 this old low-filtration configuration is poor value. [3][18][22]

Named alternatives: a corded Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe NV360 at $149.99 from Walmart (new, verified October 2026 listing) is better for allergies, sustained deep carpet cleaning, long sessions and one-vacuum households when a power cord and larger form factor are acceptable. A Shark Pet Plus Cordless IZ361H at $329.99 from Home Depot offers HEPA complete-seal, a self-cleaning PowerFins roller and a removable battery, and is better for cordless-heavy use with shedding animals or dust-sensitive occupants, at a substantial premium. A Dyson V8 Cordless offers better filtration, maneuverability, accessory flexibility and floorhead serviceability per RTINGS’ side-by-side comparison, but a verified accessible new V8 checkout price was not established, so do not treat $589.99 as universally available.
