Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

This is an entry-level 23.6-inch curved VA monitor at 1080p and up to 75Hz, with two HDMI ports, VGA, built-in speakers and a one-year warranty. Check the model number before you buy: Sceptre sells several near-identical 24-inch curved panels, and only the 1500R revision has 98% sRGB, two HDMI ports and Adaptive Sync.

Strengths

  • Two HDMI 1.4 ports plus VGA connect older and newer PCs without adapters.
  • Adaptive Sync is present on the 2024 revision, which the older 1800R sibling lacks.
  • Built-in 2W speakers and a 3.5mm output save desk space.
  • VESA 100 x 100mm mounting and a detachable neck let it sit on an arm.

Weaknesses

  • No instrumented test exists for this revision, so the 5ms and 98% sRGB figures are manufacturer claims.
  • 75Hz is the ceiling; a Blur Busters poster regrets not buying a 144Hz panel for the same money.
  • The sibling review reports visible ghosting in dark, fast-moving scenes, which matters for competitive play.
  • Colour accuracy is looser than similarly priced IPS panels, so it is not suited to colour-critical work.
  • The “edgeless” label is not edge-to-edge; a thin black border surrounds the picture.
  • No replacement parts catalog exists beyond cables and adapters, so practical repair is limited.

Which model this is

This page covers Sceptre’s 24-inch 1500R curved 1080p monitor, sold on Sceptre’s own site as the C248W-1920RN in two revisions labelled Mid 2024 (C248W-1920RND) and Late 2024 (C248W-1920RNT). A third-party buying guide lists the retail name as “Sceptre 24-Inch Curved Gaming Monitor, C248W-1920RN”. Its Amazon listing is ASIN B07KXSR99Y. Don’t confuse it with the older 1800R C248W-1920RN, which is a different panel with one HDMI port and no Adaptive Sync.

Adaptive Sync and the confusing model family

Sceptre’s 24-inch curved line looks alike but is not. The 2024 1500R revision pairs 98% sRGB, two HDMI ports, Adaptive Sync and a 100 x 100mm VESA pattern with a 7 lb cabinet. The older 1800R C248W-1920RN has 85% sRGB, one HDMI port, no FreeSync, a 75 x 75mm VESA pattern and 6.61 lb of weight. Two manuals from 2020 list 8ms response and 3W speakers where the web pages advertise 5ms and 2W. Any comparison that stops at the screen size will produce the wrong conclusion, so match on the model number.

What independent testing shows

Treat these as family-level indications, not measurements of the 1500R revision.

Pricing and running costs

Sceptre lists the 1500R revision at $269.99 direct, while the older sibling sells for $90-$103 street and was carried in a sub-$100 guide until it was removed on 17 April 2025. Below roughly $110 it is a reasonable second display or office screen with speakers, VESA mounting and Adaptive Sync; from $110 to $150 the comparison is against 144Hz panels; by $270 there is no case for it. Running cost is small: it draws up to 34W from a 12V DC 3A adapter, and Sceptre sells that adapter as a spare part. Warranty service runs through an RMA form, with a number issued within 48 hours and valid for 15 days.
