Summary
A 1.8 lb 1080p portable projector on a 180-degree cradle, with autofocus, auto keystone and the full Tizen smart TV built in. The catch is light: 230 ANSI lumens and 7.3 nits measured at 100 inches mean a dark room is mandatory.
Strengths
- Autofocus, auto keystone and auto leveling make setup close to plug-and-play.
- The 180-degree cradle lets it throw at a wall, a ceiling or anything between.
- The full Tizen interface is a real TV operating system rather than a cut-down smart platform.
- Sound is louder and fuller than the small body suggests.
- Samsung Gaming Hub runs cloud games without a console.
- It weighs about 1.8 lb and can run from a USB-C power bank.
Weaknesses
- 230 ANSI lumens only works in a dark room; every independent tester found ambient light kills the image.
- Contrast is poor, with grey blacks in dark scenes and a noticeable rainbow effect.
- There is no optical zoom and no lens shift, so resizing the image means moving the projector.
- Micro-HDMI is the only video input, and there is no USB-A port and no internal storage.
- The battery base is sold separately, measured at $190 by CNN Underscored in 2023.
- Owner reports of display faults, sensor faults and post-update failures appear on Samsung’s own UK review page.

Brightness and picture
Every independent tester reaches the same conclusion about light output. RTINGS calls the brightness “dim all the time” and the contrast “terrible”, with raised blacks in any content, a noticeable rainbow effect and judder it cannot remove. TechRadar measured 7.3 nits in Dynamic mode and 6.6 nits in Movie mode on a 10% white window at 100 inches on an ALR screen, against 125 nits from a BenQ v5000i UST, plus colour Delta-E 5 and grayscale Delta-E 14.1 in Movie mode. CNN Underscored called 230 ANSI lumens “perfect for a dark room but far too dim to use in a fully lit room”. With no zoom or lens shift, the only way to brighten the image is to move the projector closer and shrink the picture.
Reliability and owner reports
Samsung’s own review pools look healthy, but the owner-level signal is colder. Samsung’s UK product page carries verbatim reports of purple and green lines or multicoloured squares across the display after four to six months, of a projector that stopped projecting after an official update, and of persistent distance-sensor fault messages that cleaning does not clear; Samsung replied to one of them that “This model doesn’t have any known faults that we are aware of”. A separate site that aggregates Reddit owner threads, tracking 45 threads and 93 owner opinions, groups 138 mentions with reliability as the top theme and reports failure onset between 2 and 19 months and 15 of 18 warranty contacts unresolved. None of that is a measured failure rate, and the aggregator says as much, so treat it as a reason to buy from a seller with an easy return path rather than as a defect count.
Warranty and repairs
The warranty is 12 months from the date of purchase, confirmed in Samsung’s own support reply and listed as one year by ProjectorCentral. Out-of-warranty repair is chargeable and starts with a paid inspection fee before any work is done. One owner who missed the claim window by two weeks was refused; another was passed between the retailer and Samsung. The light source is an LED rated at 30,000 hours, so there is no lamp to replace. The one documented user-level maintenance item is the front sensor array: Samsung’s own support page tells owners to clean the sensors when auto focus and auto keystone misbehave, and owners repeatedly quote the on-screen “Fault Detected” distance-sensor message that cleaning sometimes does not clear.
Value swings hard with the discount. At the $799.99 list price the case is weak: TechRadar scored value low and noted the projector “costs twice as much as other portable 1080p LED projectors with similar brightness specs such as the Anker Nebula Solar Portable”. ProjectorCentral’s street price sits at $498, one aggregator observed $348.59, and TechRadar noted holiday sales around $599. TechAdvisor’s price comparison showed Best Buy and Walmart at $597.99, Home Depot at $734.97 and Newegg at $850.99. The battery base is the recurring extra at $190, and Samsung Care+ protection is sold at $199.99 for two years or $269.99 for four. Above $750 the case collapses unless the Samsung ecosystem and the cradle form factor are the whole point.
