Summary
A mid-range Android tablet that ships with the S Pen stylus in the box, carries IP68 water resistance and a metal body, and suits people who want a pen without paying extra for one. Check before you buy: Samsung’s US store now redirects the S9 FE to the Galaxy Tab S10 FE, and this tablet is near the end of a four-major-update commitment.
Strengths
- The S Pen comes in the box, a 4096-level stylus that needs no battery, which Tom’s Guide contrasts with the $129 Apple Pencil.
- The chassis matches the flagship Galaxy Tab S9 line closely enough that Android Police called the build premium-feeling.
- Samsung DeX turns the tablet into a desktop-style workspace, and the multitasking tools are consistently praised.
- Trusted Reviews says the bundled stylus makes the tablet far more appealing for digital art at no extra cost.
- Measured battery drain is gentle: 9% in an hour of HDR Netflix and 6% in 30 minutes of light gaming.
Weaknesses
- The 90Hz LCD peaks at 670 nits, and Android Police found a narrow color range with less deep blacks than the OLED models.
- Tom’s Guide calls the muted-looking display the reason to avoid the tablet.
- The Exynos 1380 lags in multitasking and could not hold a stable frame rate in Genshin Impact even at minimum settings.
- No power adapter and no headphone jack ship in the box, so you need a 45W-class USB-C charger and wireless headphones.
- Cameras are the weak link: slightly out-of-focus shots, soft selfies and poor low-light images from the rear camera.
- The tablet is near the end of a four-major-update commitment, and Samsung’s US store has retired the product page.

Which model this is
This page covers the Galaxy Tab S9 FE in its 10.9-inch Wi-Fi form factor, sold in the US as SM-X710-series hardware. The 128GB Wi-Fi unit is ASIN B0CCBS8NGX.
Do not confuse it with the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, a different and larger 12.4-inch tablet with a higher RAM tier and a 10,090 mAh battery, or with the 11-inch Galaxy Tab S9 and the Tab S9 Ultra, which are different products entirely. The FE+ also carries a second 8MP rear camera; this model has one.
Display and stylus
The 10.9-inch WUXGA+ LCD runs at 2304 × 1440 with an adaptive refresh rate that tops out at 90Hz. Contrast measured 1052:1, and Android Police found the color range narrow, especially in the cooler part of the spectrum, with less deep blacks than the OLED tablets. In direct sunlight the tablet stays watchable for video but gets awkward for games.
The S Pen is the reason to buy this tablet instead of a plain slab. It is a real 4096-level stylus with tilt detection that works through the digitizer, so it needs no battery and no pairing. It is not the S Pen Pro: Samsung’s own support page states that the bundled pen has no Bluetooth Low Energy, so the pen-as-remote Air Actions do not work. The tablet also has no slot to store it, so the pen rides on the magnets on the back.
Performance, battery and charging
The Exynos 1380 is a mid-tier chip. Android Police, after a month of use, saw visible lag with a video and a browser side by side, and could not hold a stable frame rate in Genshin Impact even at minimum settings, with the tablet getting uncomfortably warm.
Battery life is respectable. The 8,000 mAh cell took 104 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%, with readings of 18%, 35% and 70% after 15, 30 and 60 minutes, and it drained 9% in an hour of HDR Netflix and 6% in 30 minutes of light gaming. That projects to roughly eight hours of light gaming or eleven hours of video streaming.
One correction if you read Samsung’s own support page: it states that the S9 FE has a 10,090 mAh battery while the FE+ has 8,000 mAh, which is backwards. Every other source puts this 10.9-inch model at 8,000 mAh and the 12.4-inch FE+ at 10,090 mAh, so the first-party page has the two mixed up.
Cameras and what the box leaves out
Camera quality is where the tablet gives ground. Treat the rear camera as a document camera and a QR scanner rather than a photography tool.
Two omissions hit you out of the box. No power adapter is included, so budget for a 45W-class USB-C charger, and there is no headphone jack, so you need wireless headphones or a USB-C adapter. The USB-C port is version 2.0 with no image output, and the tablet has no vibration motor. Storage is not a problem: the microSD slot takes cards up to 1TB, so you do not have to buy a higher-storage model.
Is it worth it?
The 10.9-inch S9 FE launched at $449.99, and the $450 list price still frames the math. Android Police’s 2026 review block shows $380 against that list, a $70 saving, with the same figure listed at Samsung and Best Buy, and Digital Trends ran a $70-off Best Buy deal of its own.
Near $380 the case is clear for someone who wants the stylus, the IP68 rating and DeX without paying flagship money. Between $400 and $449 the value thins out, because Samsung now sells the Galaxy Tab S10 FE in its place. Above $450 there is no case for this tablet.
Two caveats sit under all of that. The display and the chipset are fixed facts that no discount removes: a 670-nit LCD and mid-tier GPU throughput. And this is a late-life platform, with security patches still landing in 2026 but the four-major-update commitment nearly spent. If a stylus in the box and IP68 water resistance are what you are buying, the tablet earns its price near $380; if you want a bright OLED panel or a fast chip, this is the wrong tablet.
