Summary

Samsung’s 12.6-inch premium Android tablet, built around a 120Hz AMOLED display, an included S Pen and IP68 resistance. Check the two-speaker downgrade and the $100 price jump over the Tab S10+ before you buy.

Strengths

  • Big 12.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with up to 1,600 nits peak brightness.
  • S Pen included in the box and IP68-rated, so no extra cost for stylus work.
  • 10,600 mAh battery rated for up to 21 hours of video playback.
  • IP68 dust and water resistance, rare at this size.
  • Seven years of OS upgrades and security patches promised.
  • Adobe Photoshop pre-installed with four months free, Notability with a six-month trial.

Weaknesses

  • Two stereo speakers, down from four on the Tab S10+ and S11 series.
  • MediaTek Dimensity 9500 replaces the Qualcomm chips used in some earlier Galaxy Tabs.
  • The anti-reflective coating has been removed from the display.
  • Samsung raised the price about $100 over the Tab S10+ launch price.
  • The 21-hour battery rating assumes 720p video at 162 nits with Wi-Fi off; expect less in real use.
  • No independent reviews or owner feedback exist yet, so real-world performance is unverified.

Screen, speed and battery

The 12.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel runs at 2800 × 1752 and 120Hz, with up to 1,600 nits peak brightness. The 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500 and 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM handle the workload, and a larger vapor chamber dissipates heat. The 10,600 mAh battery is rated for up to 21 hours of video playback, though that figure comes from Samsung’s own test: 720p video at 162 nits brightness, earbud volume 7, Wi-Fi and mobile network off. A 45W adapter charges 0-100% in about 95 minutes. No independent reviews or instrumented tests exist yet to validate these numbers.

Speakers and build trade-offs

The Tab S12+ drops to two stereo speakers from the four on the Tab S10+ and S11 series — a real downgrade for media consumption. The anti-reflective coating is gone too, which one hands-on report flags as a change from prior generations. The body is aluminum with an Enhanced Armor Aluminum frame, and at 187.8 × 289.5 × 5.3 mm and 553g it keeps a thin profile. The fingerprint sensor has moved under the display.

Software and included apps

The tablet runs Android 17 with One UI 9 and Samsung promises up to 7 years of OS upgrades and security patches. Adobe Photoshop is pre-installed with four months of free access — a first for Android tablets — and Notability comes with a six-month trial. Goodnotes, LumaFusion and Notion are also pre-loaded, and Google AI Pro is included as a six-month trial with 5TB of storage. Samsung’s standard warranty applies, typically one year for tablets in the US, and Samsung Care+ is available for extended coverage including accidental damage protection.

Is it worth it?

At Samsung’s US launch price of $1,199.99 for the 12GB/256GB Wi-Fi model, the Tab S12+ is the smaller and cheaper of Samsung’s two new tablets; the Tab S12 Ultra is $1,399.99. The 5G variant is $1,349.99 and the 512GB model is $1,399.99. Samsung offers 5% cash rewards for Galaxy Card users buying direct. Against that: two speakers instead of four, MediaTek instead of Qualcomm, no anti-reflective coating, and a price about $100 higher than the Tab S10+ launch. On GSMArena, user opinions criticize the minimal changes versus the S11 series and the higher price for fewer spec changes — unverified, but consistent with the spec sheet. If you want a big AMOLED screen and the S Pen without paying Ultra money, the Tab S12+ is the more portable of the two new Samsung tablets; if speakers matter, the older quad-speaker models deserve a look.

Which model this is

This page covers the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12+ with 256GB storage in Wi-Fi configuration, color Gray, model numbers SM-X840 and SM-X846B seen in certification filings. Samsung announced the Tab S12 series on September 30, 2026, with US availability starting October 7, 2026. The Amazon listing for this variant is ASIN B0H6GVMB9G. Don’t confuse it with the Tab S12 Ultra, which is larger and has no cellular version, or the Tab S11, which remains the only 11-inch model in the lineup.
