Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-21

Summary

The S26 Ultra’s reported problems cluster around the pen and the radio: owners describe the built-in S Pen cracking or popping out of its slot, intermittent Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and visible grain in the panel, while the 5x lens now needs 52 cm to focus against 26 cm on the S25 Ultra’s periscope. Keeping it running costs about $1.76 a year in charging electricity, and there are no consumables to replace. The handset is worth buying in the $950–1,100 band, compelling below $950 if the unit is genuinely new, unlocked and covered by a US Samsung warranty, and weak value above $1,200.

Yearly running cost

About $1.76 a year, all of it electricity. Samsung rates the cell at 5,000 mAh; at 3.85 V average battery voltage and 80% wall-to-battery efficiency, one full charge is about 24.1 Wh at the wall, so one charge a day works out to roughly 8.79 kWh a year, or about $1.76 a year at an assumed $0.20 per kWh. Actual losses, cellular load, wireless charging and your own tariff change that figure. There are no annual consumables, no required subscription and no mandatory accessory. The one-off extras are $54.99 for the charger, $49.99 for the magnet case and $24.99 for the film — $129.97 before tax for those three — plus $54.99 if you also want a spare S Pen, and none of them is needed if you already own compatible gear. Cell service, insurance, repair, financing and depreciation are not included.
