Summary
A low-cost, battery-powered 48-LED ring light for smartphone and small-camera vlogging, with a fixed 5600 K color temperature and four snap-on filters for 4100 K and 3200 K. Check the color temperature before you buy: it stays fixed unless a filter is installed, and changing filters means popping off the translucent cover.
Strengths
- Light weight and compact size make it easy to carry and mount.
- Setup takes under five minutes, per hands-on reviews.
- Versatile mounting on hot shoes, tripods and shotgun microphones.
- Low price relative to larger ring-light kits.
- Circular catch light and even facial lighting praised by a user reviewer.
Weaknesses
- Color temperature is fixed at 5600 K unless a filter is installed.
- Filter insertion requires popping off the translucent cover and is described as frustrating.
- No rechargeable batteries or mains power are included.
- No cold-shoe mount, so a microphone receiver cannot attach to the kit.
- Output is modest (242 lux at 1 m) and suited to close range.
- Warranty length and repairability are not documented in the sources found.

Full research notes and sources
Filters and color temperature
The RL48-B runs at a fixed 5600 K. To get 4100 K or 3200 K you install one of the four included filters (LED 204, 205, 216, 184). Reviewers describe the process as frustrating and time-consuming because the translucent cover must be popped off to seat a filter. Rotolight states the unit is calibrated to within plus or minus 50 K. No Film School also lists 6300 K as a filter option, which conflicts with the current 5600 K fixed base.
Battery and power
Powered by 3 AA batteries for up to 4 hours continuous use. Lithium AA extends runtime, while normal rechargeable AA batteries are discouraged due to lower voltage. There is no mains power and no included rechargeable pack.
Mounting and handling
The light mounts on a hot shoe, tripod or shotgun microphone via a 1/4 inch thread. The center logo/boss can be removed to fit the light around an accessory such as a shotgun mic. The mini tripod (Rotopod) has a 140 degree ball head and doubles as a handheld grip. There is no cold-shoe mount, so a microphone receiver cannot attach to the kit. Build is a plastic ring with a translucent cover over 48 LEDs. No all-metal or waterproof construction claim appears in the sources found.
Is it worth it?
At the B&H price of $89 the kit is a reasonable value for a simple portable vlogging light with good color rendering, provided the buyer accepts fixed color temperature and manual filter changes. Above roughly $110 the value weakens, since the kit offers no dimming, no adjustable color temperature and modest output. The main differentiator is the combination of portability, even lighting, filter-based color correction and hot-shoe/shotgun-mic mounting.
