Summary

A premium robot vacuum and mop whose Empty Wash Fill Dock empties the dustbin, washes the mop pad and refills the water tank on its own. It suits homes that want hands-off floor cleaning across hard floors and low-pile carpet; check your floor space first, because the dock is very large.

Strengths

  • The dock empties, washes and refills itself — Tom’s Guide found one container holds about seven weeks of dirt.
  • VibraRise lifts the mop on carpet, so a single pass mops hard floors and vacuums low-pile carpet.
  • ReactiveAI 2.0 rarely gets stuck; PCMag watched it steer clear of power cords and curtains and free itself 100% of the time.
  • Hardwood cleaning is strong: 99.6% cereal and 98.5% dog hair pickup, 91.26 overall in Tom’s Guide’s lab test.
  • The 3-liter clean tank lasts weeks of frequent mopping.
  • Quiet in operation for a robot this powerful.

Weaknesses

  • The dock is very large — 16.5 inches high with a 19.4 × 16.5 inch footprint; measure your space before it ships.
  • No hot-air mop-drying; the pad can stay damp for 12+ hours after a run.
  • Pet hair pickup on carpet is lackluster next to competitors with dual brush rolls.
  • Small obstacles like charging cords and shoelaces can still snag it; manual no-go zones may be needed.
  • The camera does not point outward when docked, so it cannot double as a stationary security camera.
  • Dust bags for the Ultra dock were unavailable at launch, and the S7 MaxV Plus bags ($41.99 for 12) do not fit.

Cleaning performance

Tom’s Guide’s lab test scored the S7 MaxV Ultra 91.26 overall: 99.6% cereal pickup, 94.8% kitty litter and 98.5% dog hair on hardwood, with pet hair overall at 78.25. PCMag ran roughly 1,000 sq ft of main level in about an hour while consuming 38% of the battery. Digital Trends calls the operation very quiet and praises the way VibraRise lifts the mop on carpet, but finds pet hair pickup on carpet lackluster next to competitors with dual brush rolls — this robot has a single rotating beater brush. In one test it got stuck on the V-shaped base of an exercise bike while mopping.

The dock and what it does for you

The dock is the reason to buy this robot. It empties the 2.5-liter dust bag — about seven weeks of dirt per Tom’s Guide, with the robot holding 0.4 liters (13.4 oz) onboard — washes the mop pad, and refills the tank. PCMag found the pad came out of the wash cycle with only a small amount of dirt left after several runs. The catch is size: 16.5 inches high with a 19.4 × 16.5 inch footprint including the ramp, significantly larger than the iRobot Roomba j7+ dock at 15.5 × 12.25 inches. The wash cycle makes a fairly loud gurgling sound, there is no hot-air drying so the pad can sit damp for 12+ hours, and the camera does not point outward when the robot is docked, which limits stationary security use.

Running costs and upkeep

Dust bags run every 1–2 months depending on how clean your home is. Mop pads need hand or machine washing, but far less often than traditional robot mops. With daily mopping across about 1,000 sq ft, the dock’s tanks need attention about once a week; the dirty-water reservoir can develop an odor after a couple of weeks, so empty it on schedule. Only Roborock-branded floor cleaner should be used, and hot water can deform the tank. Replacement parts are sold in the Roborock store at reasonable prices — Digital Trends cites a $23 beater brush — and Roborock floor cleaner runs $16. After six months of extremely frequent use, Digital Trends saw all signs of a long life.

Tom’s Guide listed $1,299 at launch in May 2022; PCMag’s MSRP was $1,399 and Digital Trends’ $1,400. By November 2022 Digital Trends found it fetching $1,060, with the Roomba Combo j7+ around $899. The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni lists at $1,549 and counters with hot-air mop-drying, a built-in voice assistant, larger water tanks and a more streamlined dock; the S7 MaxV Ultra answers with slightly better mopping and the mop-lifting feature that lets it handle mixed floors in one pass. For hands-off mopping with minimal maintenance it is compelling; if drying and a built-in assistant matter more, competitors have the edge.

Which model this is

Released in May 2022. It is not the S7 MaxV Plus, which only self-empties, or the standalone S7 MaxV with no auto-empty dock. The US Amazon listing is ASIN B0BCVXV9W7.
