Redragon PENUMBRA K687 PRO: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-26

Summary

Owners report a fixed typing angle with no adjustable feet, transparent front-facing key legends that are hard to read without backlight, and an animated-only backlight on at least one unit. There are no consumables; replacement switches and keycaps are optional. At about $51-60 with discount codes it is strong value; above about $90 it faces better-documented alternatives.

Common problems and fixes

Transparent front-facing key legends — legends are printed on the front face of the keys and need backlight to be readable; no fix beyond keeping the backlight on is reported. [7]
LEDs could be brighter — one owner reports the lighting is not bright enough. [4]
Unpublished battery capacity and polling rate — the manufacturer and KeebFinder list both as unknown, so battery life and latency cannot be estimated. [5]

Parts and consumables

Battery cell — no replacement procedure or spare parts catalog is published; repairability beyond switch and cable swap is unverified. [1]

Yearly running cost

No recurring cost is reported. There are no consumables and no subscription. Not enough data for an annual figure.

When it is a good buy

Redragonshop lists the K687 PRO at $59.99 with code GHOST15 (15% off) and affiliate code KEEBFINDER (10% off); KeebFinder tracks it from $59. [1][5]
An independent reviewer paid $89.99 USD (£73.00 GBP) in Feb 2025. [7]
The wired K687 sibling is $69 at Redragon. [6]
At about $51-60 (with codes): strong value for a 1.8 kg CNC aluminum, gasket-mounted, tri-mode 75% board with PBT keycaps and hot-swap sockets. [5][7]
At $60-75: still competitive against Keychron J2, XVX M75 Lumina and similar budget aluminum boards. [5]
Above about $90: weaker, because battery life, polling rate and long-term durability are undocumented. [5][7]
If wireless is not needed, the wired K687 at $69 is the value alternative. [6]
