Sound and microphone

RTINGS tested the analog model and awarded a 7.0 score. Its review describes a dark, bass-heavy average sound profile, with inconsistent bass and treble delivery depending on fit and placement. The boom microphone is the standout: it captures voice clearly even in loud environments. RTINGS rates the headset decent for wired gaming and phone calls, passable for neutral sound, and poor for commute, travel, sports and office use.

Comfort and build

The headset weighs 240 g with breathable memory foam earpads and a closed-back over-ear design. RTINGS found it comfortable and stable enough for long sessions. The durability cautions are the metal hinges and ear-cup audio cables, which feel fragile, plus the non-detachable rubber cable. There is no lighting and no battery to manage. Earpads use breathable memory foam over a closed-back enclosure.

Compatibility and controls

The analog 3.5 mm connection works with PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One and mobile devices with an available 3.5 mm port. Virtual 7.1 surround sound is only available on Windows 11 or higher. Controls are on-earcup volume up/down and a mic mute on/off toggle, which RTINGS calls sub-par. The boom microphone is not detachable.

Repairs and running costs

There are no consumables and no subscription, so upkeep is limited to cleaning. The headset is passive wired with no battery, and replacement is only required if the cable or hinges fail, and neither is a replaceable part. The non-detachable cable and fragile hinges mean a failure usually means replacing the whole headset. Razer covers headsets with a 2-year limited warranty.

Is it worth it?

At $59.99 from the Razer US store, the headset offers 50 mm drivers and an excellently performing boom microphone with passive isolation, which is reasonable value for budget wired gaming. The durability cautions (fragile hinges and ear-cup cables, non-detachable cable) reduce value for rough handling. PCMag noted the V2 X was available for $69.99 at an earlier point, so the price has changed over time.

Which model this is

This page covers the analog 3.5 mm BlackShark V2 X, model code RZ04-03240100-R3U1, sold in black. Razer also sells a BlackShark V2 X USB variant, which is a different product and should not be confused with this analog model. The PlayStation-branded retail variant is not separately documented; the analog connection is stated to work with PS4, and whether the packaging changes color, accessories or model code is not documented on sources checked. The Amazon listing for this analog model is ASIN B0CXH14PPD. Do not confuse it with the USB variant or the higher-tier BlackShark V2, which uses a USB sound card and fabric-wrapped cable.
