Summary
A 1-gallon ultrasonic cool-mist humidifier for rooms up to 500 sq ft, with a variable mist knob and a 5-year warranty. The thing to check before you buy is your water: hard tap water means white dust and descaling every 1–2 weeks.
Strengths
- Owners repeatedly praise the quiet operation, with one Best Buy reviewer calling it “as quiet as the proverbial mouse.”
- The variable mist knob gives continuous output control rather than fixed speeds.
- A 360° nozzle and auto shut-off round out a simple, no-app design.
Weaknesses
- No independent outlet has run an instrumented test of the exact XL model.
- Tap water leaves white dust, so hard-water homes need distilled water and regular descaling.
- An r/Humidifiers user described orange mold and slimy water in an older MistAire; the model was not confirmed.
- Some owners say the tank is awkward to fill from a jug, with no handle or flat top.
- A r/HomeKit thread reports units that died out of box or after one evening; the model is unconfirmed.
- BabyGearLab found the smaller MistAire hard to clean, and it is unknown whether that carries over to the XL.

Cleaning and running costs
The manufacturer recommends regular cleaning with the included brush and descaling every 1–2 weeks depending on water type. In hard-water areas, Pure Enrichment recommends distilled water to limit mineral buildup and white dust. A decalcification cartridge costs $11.99 from Pure Enrichment and is replaced every 6 months. The EPA documents white dust from tap water minerals as a category-wide ultrasonic humidifier issue, so budget for distilled water if your tap water is hard.
What owners say
Owner reviews at Best Buy, Home Depot and CVS praise the quiet operation, the large tank, the fine mist and the night light.
On r/Humidifiers, one user described an old MistAire with orange mold and slimy water, pointing at a design with no filter or barrier between open air and the tank. A r/HomeKit thread describes a humidifier that stopped blowing mist after a single evening of use, and some owners there report units that never worked out of the box. Neither thread confirms the model, so treat those reports as category-level warnings rather than known XL defects.
The testing gap
No established outlet — RTINGS, Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide, CNET, PCMag — has published an instrumented test of the exact PEHUMLRG. BabyGearLab tested the smaller MistAire (PEHUMIDIF) instead, scoring it 40/100 and ranking it 9th of 9: quiet (9.0/10) but weak at raising humidity (2.0/10) and hard to clean (3.0/10). CNN Underscored also reviewed the smaller model, not the XL. Nothing published tells you how the XL itself performs under test conditions.
Is it worth it?
Pure Enrichment lists the MistAire XL at $59.99 on its own site; Best Buy was sold out at the time of research. For that money you get a 1-gallon tank, 10 to 24 hours of runtime and a 5-year warranty. If independently verified performance matters to you, the missing XL test is the trade-off; if warranty length and tank size matter more, this is a reasonable budget humidifier.
Which model this is
This covers the MistAire XL, model PEHUMLRG — not the smaller MistAire (PEHUMIDIF, 1.7 L tank) or the MistAire Silver (PEHUMGRY, 1.5 L tank), which have different tanks and coverage. Best Buy sells it under SKU 6460226.
The Amazon listing for this humidifier is ASIN B01M06T0RA.
