Pure Enrichment HUME: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-13
Summary
The Pure Enrichment HUME (PEHUME) is a basic 3.5 L ultrasonic cool mist humidifier with a 5-year warranty, and the most common owner complaint is that units stop misting or leak occasionally. The recurring cost is the decalcification cartridge, replaced every 6 months, plus electricity at 25 W. At $49.99 from Pure Enrichment (October 2026) it is a fair buy for a small room if you can live without a humidistat.
Common problems and fixes
- Coverage claim conflict — the spec table says up to 270 sq. ft. while the product description on the same page says 475 sq. ft.; the manufacturer has not clarified which figure is correct. [1]
- Units stop misting or leak — general Pure Enrichment humidifier complaints across models mention units stopping misting and occasional leaking, but these are not attributed to the PEHUME specifically without owner discussions. [1]
- Essential oils damage the unit — the manual warns that water additives including essential oils, fragrances, eucalyptus or water conditioners will damage the materials and the whole unit, and using them voids the warranty; keep oils out. [2]
- No humidistat — the unit cannot hold a target humidity; it is a single-knob cool-mist-only design with no warm mist, night light or timer. [1][2]
- Runtime varies — the spec table says up to 50 hours, the description says 12-50 hours depending on output level. [1]
Parts and consumables
- Decalcification cartridge — recommended, replace every 6 months; it is not confirmed whether one is included in the box. [1]
- Ceramic transducer — has a glaze coating to resist water scale. [2]
- Mist nozzle — adjustable, can be popped off and flipped to change direction. [1]
- Water tank cap — twist-off. [1]

When it is a good buy
Pure Enrichment lists the HUME at $49.99 (October 2026). Buy it if you want a simple cool-mist unit for a small-to-medium room and value the 5-year warranty. Alternatives in the same family: HUME Max (PEHUMTOP), HUME Sense (PEHUTRB-W), HUME XL (PEHUMLRG) and HUME XL Pro (PEHUMPRO) are separate models with different specs, so pick one if you need a different tank size or feature set.
