Prusament PLA Pristine White 1.75 mm 1 kg: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-23

Summary

Prusament PLA Pristine White is an unfilled standard PLA on Prusa’s factory-wound 1 kg spool; several exact-color owners report first-layer adhesion and stringing trouble that in at least one case traced to an incorrect slicer profile rather than the spool. It lists at $23.99 on Prusa’s US page and $37.99 at Printed Solid in October 2026, with no electricity draw or subscription beyond the filament itself. Its 55°C heat-deflection temperature and brittle PLA base rule out hot, stressed or outdoor parts.

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

No electricity draw or subscription; purchased filament and waste are the ongoing cost. At $23.99/kg raw filament costs $0.02399/g, so 100 g of consumed material is about $2.40, 250 g about $6.00 and 1 kg about $23.99, before supports, failed jobs, nozzle purge, taxes and shipping. At $37.99/kg the same examples are $3.80 per 100 g, $9.50 per 250 g and $37.99 per kg. Using the generic TDS density of 1.24 g/cm³ and a 1.75 mm cross-section, 1 kg is about 335 m of filament. At 6 kg consumed per year, six full spools cost $143.94 at $23.99 each or $227.94 at $37.99 each; at 12 kg per year, $287.88 or $455.88, before tax and material lost to failures. Drying energy is separate and depends on the appliance and frequency. [1][2][4][7]

When it is a good buy

Prusa’s US page lists $23.99, reduced from $29.99, with the same SKU at $37.99 at Printed Solid in October 2026, where domestic shipping is free only above $50; a single spool may carry shipping. Thresholds for the original NFC 1 kg spool: up to $25 delivered is strong value for tight process control and consistent white; $25 to $30 is reasonable if repeatable color and per-spool logging matter; above $30 is harder to justify for everyday non-critical whites. Alternatives: Bambu PLA Basic white at $19.99 in its US storefront and Inland PLA Basic White at $9.99 in-store at Micro Center, though both use ±0.03 mm tolerance and different color recipes, and neither has been shown identical to Pristine White; the Micro Center offer is in-store pickup only. Compare with-spool selections and freight rather than spool-less refills or quantity discounts. [1][2][14][15]
