Summary
A 1 kg spool of decorative grey PLA with glitter flecks for FDM printers, aimed at indoor sculptures, architectural models and displays where a stone-like finish hides layer lines. Check nozzle and moisture before long prints: Prusa recommends a 0.4 mm brass nozzle, and opened rolls can string or pop if damp.
Strengths
- Stone-like finish without paint: the grey base and contrasting particles mask layer lines on sculptures, architectural models and decorative objects.
- Low-warping, easy-processing PLA suited to large objects; generally no enclosure needed.
- Spool-level traceability: factory diameter and ovality records plus manufacturer-managed color recipe for repeatable decorative production.
- Documented successful long prints: a roughly 10-hour decorative bowl on an MK4S with 0.6 mm nozzle, and a roughly 30-hour statue with supports on an MK3.5S.
- Some quantified mechanical data exists for this exact Marble Gray color, though from a non-accredited lab session.
Weaknesses
- Stringing and popping on opened rolls: an MK3S+ owner reported wisps and stuck joints after about two days at 49–51% RH; moisture suspected but not confirmed.
- 0.2 mm nozzles are a poor first choice for this particle-filled filament; one P1P owner saw messy sections after clean early layers despite calibration.
- PLA limits: 55°C heat-deflection, brittle versus PETG/ASA; Prusa advises PETG or ASA for mechanical or hot applications. Avoid exposed hot-car parts.
- First-layer and adhesion trouble reported on an MK3 at 225/60°C while another Prusament color worked better; no controlled root cause.
- Unexplained short pauses reported on a CORE One print; belts and release-candidate firmware were also changed, so no filament fault was established.
- No reliable population-level data on clog rates, defect incidence or warranty outcomes for this color.

Print settings and nozzle choice
Prusa’s current listing calls for a 215°C nozzle, 50–60°C bed, and a 0.4 mm brass nozzle. The older Prusament PLA TDS (v1.1, 2022) gives a wider 210 ±10°C nozzle and 40–60°C bed, full part cooling, and up to 200 mm/s. Treat the listing as the starting point and the TDS as the family envelope. The TDS figures are generic PLA, not marble-specific tests. A 0.2–0.25 mm nozzle raises particle-clog risk with this flecked filament; owners report messy sections and suspected clogs, though none were confirmed by teardown. Start with 0.4 mm before committing to a long print.
Moisture and storage
An MK3S+ owner reported popping during heat-up, wisps, and stuck print-in-place joints after about two days in a room at 49–51% RH, while a different PLA roll ran cleaner at the same settings. Moisture was suspected but never confirmed. Prusa’s general drying guidance for PLA is 45°C for 6 hours; particular cardboard-core spools can loosen if overheated. Dry only when symptoms suggest moisture, and check the actual reel’s construction.
Mechanical limits and heat
The generic TDS lists 55°C heat-deflection, density 1.24 g/cm³, Shore D 81, and printed tensile yield of 51±3 MPa horizontal and 59±2 MPa vertical xz. The 3DPIceland session measured 45.066 MPa flat and 14.366 MPa upright. That lab is not accredited and did not record printer, profile, or test dates, so treat it as exploratory. Prusa rates standard PLA easy to print and suitable for large objects but recommends PETG or ASA for higher thermal or mechanical loads. Avoid exposed hot-car parts.
Cost and value
Prusa US listed Marble Grey at $29.99 for a 1 kg spool in October 2026, with the product page showing in stock and 1–3 business days preparation. Printed Solid listed the exact NFC roll (SKU 17740) at $37.99, with free domestic shipping over $50. A 25 g sample is $2.19. Comparable marble-effect filaments run $18.99 (ELEGOO, October 2026) to $24.99 (Bambu Lab via 3D Universe, in stock). A good buy for the exact Prusament color is $24.99 or less from a legitimate seller; at $29.99 it is acceptable when the finish and traceability matter; above $30, an alternate marble PLA at $18.99–$24.99 offers better value when color fidelity is not critical. Delivered total matters: a single $37.99 spool may carry freight under Printed Solid’s $50 threshold. Running cost is filament consumed plus supports, failed prints, electricity and shipping; at $29.99/kg, 1 kg is $29.99, 3 kg is $89.97, 5 kg is $149.95, 10 kg is $299.90. No mandatory subscription, cartridge or filter.
Is it worth it?
For a specific stone-like grey finish with per-spool QC data, yes at $24.99 or less and acceptable at $29.99. If color match is flexible, ELEGOO or Polymaker marble PLA at $18.99–$20.99 is the better value. PLA’s 55°C heat limit rules it out for functional or hot parts regardless of price.
Which model this is
This page covers Prusament PLA Marble Grey, 1 kg, 1.75 mm, manufacturer IDF 17740 / IDS 3426; Printed Solid SKU 17740. The product queue name adds “Premium”, but the official product name is Prusament PLA Marble Grey 1kg. Not grey PETG, not Galaxy Silver, not solid Gravity Grey, not a PLA Blend grade. The currently sold full spool is NFC-equipped (from October 2025).
