Prusament PLA Army Green 1.75 mm, 1 kg: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-23
Summary
Prusament PLA Army Green is a standard PLA spool with an advertised 1.75 ± 0.02 mm tolerance and per-spool diameter and ovality readings, but it carries PLA’s usual limits: about 55°C heat deflection and brittle impact behavior. Buying it means sorting out which reel generation ships, since the NFC SKU 17628 and the older no-NFC clearance reel 2633 are different products at different prices, and US offers ranged from $20.46 to $37.99 in October 2026.
Common problems and fixes
- Brittle impact failure — the material is hard and brittle, so clips, impact mounts and safety-critical parts can snap. Choose a tougher material for those; this is a material property, not a defect. [5]
- Layer adhesion varies by setup — the Prusa TDS lists interlayer adhesion 17 ± 3 MPa, and a May 2026 hobbyist six-spool break test found a Prusament sample strong lengthwise but comparatively poor layer adhesion on their settings; the color was not established as Army Green and the sample was small. Adjust orientation and settings; not a warranty matter. [4][14]
- Bed adhesion on textured sheets (related shade) — a May 2020 Opal Green owner reported corner lifting at 215°C nozzle and 60°C bed on a textured MK3S sheet despite an acceptable first layer. Workaround: try a smooth sheet or adjust cooling; this is a troubleshooting example for a related shade, not a verified Army Green defect. [11]
- Color and batch are not interchangeable across shades — a November 12, 2019 Army Green spool printed successfully while a Royal Blue roll failed with the same g-code and storage, so colors are not interchangeable even within Prusament. Treat shade-specific claims carefully; no current batch notice exists. [9]
- Older spool can loosen if dried too hot — cardboard-centered reels may lose flange tension above 45°C. Identify the reel revision before drying and keep PLA at 45°C for 6 hours; the newer spool tolerates up to 90°C reel exposure but PLA does not. [6][7]
- Reel-generation and identity risk — the catalog title does not state NFC, and the current NFC SKU 17628 and the older no-NFC clearance reel 2633 are different products. Verify which ships and use the 60-day return if the wrong one arrives; opened filament is excluded from change-of-mind returns. [1][2][8]
- No verified defect rate — no published rate of tangles, diameter outliers or nozzle blockages for this color, and no 2025-2026 recall. Retain the spool ID and measurements and contact Prusa support for suspected tolerance failures. [1][9][10]
Parts and consumables
- Prusament PLA Army Green 1.75 mm, 1 kg reel (NFC SKU 17628) — $25.49 on a Prusa USD page with Japan destination, $37.99 at Printed Solid US; consumed by grams printed, not on a fixed interval. [1][2][3][15]
- Older no-NFC Army Green 1 kg reel (IDF 2633, IDS 587) — $20.46 in one clearance snapshot and $24.07 in an older US-destination view; usable without NFC, with a cardboard-centered spool. [2][15]
- 2 kg reel and 10-spool multipack — alternative buying units, not replacement parts for a 1 kg holder; the multipack was displayed at $272.64, about $27.264 per kg. [13]
- Desiccant and dry box — optional moisture protection; Prusa recommends a sealed container with desiccant. No required branded cartridge, interval or verified annual cost. [6]
- Adhesive, wet-sanding supplies, paint — optional project materials; not mandatory consumables and no manufacturer-prescribed replacement rate. [1][5]
Yearly running cost
Raw filament dominates the cost. At $25.49 per kg, filament is $0.02549 per gram, so a 100 g print uses about $2.55 and a 250 g print about $6.37, excluding support, purge, failed prints, spool tail, taxes and freight. At Printed Solid’s $37.99 per kg it is $0.03799 per gram, or about $3.80 per 100 g and $9.50 per 250 g, a difference of about $3.13 in raw filament for a 250 g item. Illustrative annual volumes: 3 kg per year costs $76.47 at $25.49 per kg or $113.97 at $37.99 per kg, and 12 kg per year costs $305.88 or $455.88, before freight and taxes. Neither is a population average or a price prediction. Electricity, dryer power and failure scrap cannot be quantified: no wattage, hours or failure rate is published, and PLA is dried at 45°C for 6 hours only when needed. No subscription, filter or mandatory consumable applies to PLA or to the OpenPrintTag. [1][3][6][7]
When it is a good buy
Observed offers in pages dated October 23, 2026, in USD, with differing shipping contexts and reel generations. [1][2][3][15]
- At or below $22 delivered — a good buy for a sealed legitimate 1 kg standard Army Green spool, including an older no-NFC reel if NFC and a reusable spool are not needed. [1][2]
- $23 to $28 delivered — worth considering for color match and spool-specific quality history; Jessie Premium PLA Army Green was $24.99. [3][12]
Named alternatives:
- Inland PLA Military Green 1.75 mm, 1 kg (Micro Center SKU 290213) — listed at $14.99, sometimes $11.99 in local promotions; advertises ±0.03 mm, 205–225°C nozzle and 60–80°C bed, with a cardboard spool. Better for local budget prints or bulk volume where exact shade and traceability do not matter. [16]
- Jessie Premium PLA Army Green 1.75 mm, 1 kg (Printed Solid SKU PS-JPLA-AG-175) — $24.99, in stock with free domestic shipping above $50. A US-warehouse alternative near Prusament’s promotional USD price with a distinctly described olive-drab shade. [12]
