Presto 07062 22-inch Electric Griddle: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-15
Summary
The 07062’s known issues are cosmetic and ergonomic rather than performance: the textured ceramic surface stains and stamps pancakes with a criss-cross pattern, the drip tray can sit loose or crack, and the removable handles feel flimsy. There are no consumables, and Presto sells the commonly broken parts, including the $12 drip tray. It is a good buy at $70 or less if you want the most even-cooking flat surface per dollar.
Common problems and fixes
- Surface staining and oil buildup — high-heat cooking leaves dark stains that are hard or impossible to remove, and the textured channels absorb oil that cooks on above the heating element. The manufacturer treats the discoloration as normal and prescribes a baking-soda paste; regular cleaning only slows the buildup, so this is not a warranty matter. [6][7][4]
- Texture marks on food — the criss-cross texture stamps pancakes, scrambled eggs can leave a film that burns on, and the texture makes sweeping grease into the trough harder than a smooth surface. No fix; it is the tradeoff for the ceramic coating and not a defect. [6]
- Flimsy removable handles — Wirecutter, testing the same 22-inch removable-handle Presto design, called the removable plastic legs and handles “somewhat flimsy, so they might break under repeated stress”. The handle/leg assembly is sold as part 85889; no failure rate is published. [5]
- Dishwasher conflict — Presto’s manual says never wash the griddle in the dishwasher because repeated washing dulls the ceramic finish, while some retailer listings call it dishwasher safe. Follow the manual: wash by hand with the heat control removed. [3][9]
- Short cord — the cord is 28 inches, adequate but potentially short for kitchens with few or awkwardly placed outlets. [5]
Parts and consumables
- Drip tray (85888) — $12.00 from Presto’s parts page (research checked October 2026); the most commonly reported breakage, replaced when it will not stay in, slides free or cracks. [10][8][6]
Yearly running cost
Not enough data for a dollar figure. There are no consumables beyond food and cleaning supplies.
When it is a good buy
- $60 or less — strong value. CNET reported the 07062 at $60 on a US retailer in August 2025, and Home Depot category listings have shown $62.99 and $49.85 on the same model at the October 2026 check. [7][14]
- $61–70 — the standard price: $69.99 from Presto direct, Home Depot and Ace (October 2026). Good value if you want the largest flat cooking area per dollar and the 11.5-inch width fits your counter and cabinet. [1][9][12]
- $71–85 — fair; the Wirecutter-tested Presto 22-inch Slimline at $80–85 becomes the rational purchase for most buyers. [5]
- Above $85 — weak for this model; nothing in the exact-model test record justifies a premium over the Slimline.
- Alternative: Presto 22-inch Slimline ($80–85, Wirecutter’s top pick) — the better choice when you want the wider 13-inch surface, published heat-up numbers and a model a chef has run eight hours a day for two years. [5]
