Summary

Check the cleaning rules before you buy: Presto’s own manual says dishwasher use slowly destroys the coating.

Strengths

  • Owners report more than a decade of regular use, and the cast aluminum base resists warping.
  • Owners consistently report even heat across the cooking surface.
  • When new, the ceramic nonstick releases food without added oil.
  • The slide-out drip tray and immersible body make cleanup straightforward.
  • The front and both sides stay cool to the touch during cooking.
  • You get a large cooking surface for very little money.

Weaknesses

  • The analog dial is imprecise, and there is no digital display, timer or preset mode.
  • Some owners report the nonstick coating loses effectiveness after months or years.
  • Presto does not readily sell replacement cooking surfaces or heating elements.
  • The plastic surround can break; one owner cracked it when the griddle shifted on a drying rack.
  • No lid is included, which owners note for some cooking tasks.
  • Dishwasher washing degrades the coating, per Presto’s current manual.

Temperature control and cooking

The Control Master dial is a mechanical thermostat, not a digital controller. You set a temperature and a pilot light goes off once it is reached; the element then cycles to hold it. That is fine for pancakes and bacon, but owners who want exact numbers, a timer or presets will not find them here. Some owners report hot spots or uneven heating after extended use, and Presto does not publish a measured uniformity figure for the current ceramic model.

Cleaning and care

The griddle is fully immersible once you pull the heat control, and the slide-out drip tray handles the grease. Presto is specific about the rest: do not wash the body in a dishwasher, do not soak it for more than two hours, and clean only with a nylon mesh scouring pad or a damp cloth. Avoid no-stick cooking sprays, cut on the surface or use metal utensils. Ceramic coating can darken with use; Presto suggests a baking soda paste to lift discoloration. Season the surface with cooking oil before first use.

Durability and repairs

The heavy cast aluminum base is the durable part, and owner reports of 12 or more years of use back the warp-proof claim. The surface itself is the weak point over time, and the plastic surround is the one component owners report breaking. If the element or thermostat fails, the griddle is generally a replacement rather than a user repair; Presto offers factory service but does not design the 07047 for component-level fixes.

Is it worth it?

Home Depot listed the 07047 at $35.99 (Home Depot, 2026), and Presto’s own store at $46.99 with free shipping (gopresto.com, 2026). At the lower end it is easy to justify: a large surface, PFAS-free coating and a long-lived base for the price of a few takeout breakfasts. Past the manufacturer list price you are paying for features this griddle does not have, so compare before spending more.
