Summary
A stovetop pressure cooker with one 15 psi setting and a tri-clad base that works on induction, for people who want a simple pot they can manage on a burner. Check whether you need quiet, precise control or canning: this is neither, and it hisses and rattles while it holds pressure.
Strengths
- Simple enough that owners report using the same unit for 20 to 30 years, replacing only rubber seals.
- The pot is immersible and dishwasher safe once the sealing ring and over-pressure plug come out.
- Genuine Presto replacement parts are sold for the sealing ring, over-pressure plug, regulator and gaskets.
- The tri-clad base works on every common range, including induction.
- One pressure setting and a visible cover lock make it hard to misuse.
Weaknesses
- The rocking regulator hisses and rattles for the whole cook.
- One pressure setting means you manage the burner yourself to keep it at pressure.
- The tri-clad base is thin enough that food can scorch with too little liquid or too long on the heat.
- It is not a tested pressure canner, so it must not be used for low-acid canning.
- Dishwasher cleaning only works with the sealing ring and over-pressure plug removed.
- Leakage between the cover and body is usually a worn sealing ring, a consumable you replace.

Noise and heat control
The 01362 has a single 15 psi setting, so it does not switch or program itself. Once the weighted regulator starts rocking, back the burner off and nudge it until the rocking stays gentle; owners describe having to experiment with their stove to hold pressure. The trade is noise: the regulator hisses and rattles for the entire cook. Dial & Dish frames the choice as buying the Presto unless quiet operation is worth the premium price of a spring-valve cooker.
Cleaning, seals and running costs
Wash the sealing ring in hot, soapy water after each use and remove it to wash the inside rim of the cover. The manual recommends replacing the sealing ring and over-pressure plug at least every two years, and sooner if they are hard, deformed, cracked, worn or pitted; continued leakage usually means the ring has shrunk and needs replacing. Those parts are consumables the 12-year warranty does not cover, so they are out-of-pocket. Presto sells genuine replacement parts through its parts lookup and the Factory Service Department in Canton, Mississippi.
Canning and safety
The 01362 is a cooker, not a canner. Presto’s own canning guidance and third-party guides say it is not a tested pressure canner and must not be used for low-acid canning. The manual also caps fill at two-thirds full, or half for foaming and expanding foods, and warns against pressure frying with oil. The cover lock keeps you from opening under pressure, but the lid can be tricky to align: the cover handle has to sit directly above the body handle for a proper seal.
Is it worth it?
Presto lists the 01362 direct at $102.99 with free shipping, and MAC’s Hardware, Target and Ace Hardware list it at $99.99. At about $100 it is a sound buy for someone who wants a durable stovetop cooker and is comfortable managing a burner. If you want set-and-forget operation, an electric multicooker fits better. If you want quiet, precise regulation, a spring-valve cooker such as Kuhn Rikon or Fissler costs roughly three times as much. If you need to can low-acid food, buy a tested pressure canner instead.
Which model this is
This is the Presto 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker, Stock No. 01362. The stock number is the first five digits of the model number; Presto’s stainless line runs 01341 (4-qt) and 01362 (6-qt), while the aluminum line is 01241, 01264 and 01282. Do not confuse it with the similar 01365 “New Design” 6-quart stainless, which adds a menu guide on the handle, or with the 01264 6-quart aluminum cooker. The Amazon listing is ASIN B00006ISG6.
