Polymaker Fiberon PPS-CF10 (1.75 mm, Black): problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-25
Summary
Owners report brittle spools that snap in tight feed paths, weak layer bonding below 310°C, and purge blockage when switching to lower-temperature polymers [2][19][20]. Filament is the only consumable; an abrasion-resistant nozzle, a drybox capable of 100°C for 10 h, and annealing equipment for 125°C for 16 h may be needed [2][3][13]. At $69.99 per 500 g (Polymaker US store, October 2026) it is a good niche buy only for users already equipped for 310-350°C printing [5][6].
Common problems and fixes
- Brittle spool and snapped filament — Polymaker’s FAQ states this composite is brittle on the spool and can break through a path with sharp turns, and it discourages AMS as the default; a 2026 r/elegoo user reported a twisted feed breaking during loading. Fix: route directly from a drybox or spool holder with large-radius bends and avoid tight tubing. Opened filament is normally not returnable unless defective [2][4][20][18].
- Weak layer bonding below 310°C — Polymaker warns 300°C may work only very slowly with poor adhesion and recommends at least 310°C; owners printing at the minimum a 300°C machine allows see poorer results. Fix: print toward the hotter end of 310-350°C and anneal at 125°C for 16 h [2][3][19].
- Strong or inconsistent bed adhesion — two 2026 r/3D2A users reported excessive sticking on textured PEI and needed an engineering plate plus glue or release agent. Test a small patch first and follow the build-plate maker’s release instructions [19].
- Purge blockage when switching polymers — a 2026 r/elegoo user could not clear residual PPS at PLA temperatures and had to purge in the high-temperature workflow before setting up the lower-temperature material [20].
- Brass nozzle wear — the TDS warns brass abrades frequently; use a wear-resistant nozzle rated for the thermal use. Wear depends on kilograms printed and the exact material and nozzle [2][3][13].
- Heat and flame marketing overreach — HDT falls from 252.5°C at 0.45 MPa to 133.0°C at 1.8 MPa, and UL94 V-0 is a manufacturer test result, not certification. Do not market a printed part as independently UL-listed [2][3][4].
Parts and consumables
- Filament (FM01001 0.5 kg / FM01002 3 kg) — $69.99 at Polymaker US store and US resellers, $73.40 at TME US; consumed as used, store dry below 20% RH [5][6][8][9][10][11].
- Wear-resistant nozzle (example E3D ObXidian V6 0.4 mm) — $53.49 at MatterHackers US nozzle catalog; replace by observed wear, not a fixed schedule [13].
Yearly running cost
No mandatory annual software subscription applies. Filament at observed list prices: 0.5 kg/year costs $69.99, 1 kg/year costs $139.98, and 3 kg/year costs $299.99. An illustrative 2 kg/year scenario costs $279.96 plus a $53.49 wear-resistant nozzle in the first year, $333.45 total, assuming that nozzle fits and is rated for the thermal use. Drying and annealing add electricity: an example appliance averaging 200 W over 16 h uses 3.2 kWh, or $0.64 at a hypothetical $0.20/kWh, but both wattage and rate are assumptions. No trustworthy material-specific annual kWh, waste rate or nozzle life was found [2][3][5][6][13].
When it is a good buy
At or below $55 per 500 g is a good niche buy for an already-equipped user; $56-70 is the expected list zone; above $75 compare PPS-GF20 at $59.99 if electrical insulation suffices, or PET-CF17 at $24.99 if 250°C-class performance is unnecessary [5][7][8][14][15]. Observed October 2026 asking prices: Polymaker US store $69.99 for 500 g (FM01001, backorder) and $299.99 for 3 kg (FM01002, backorder); West3D $69.99 (sold out); 3DPrintiverse $69.99 (sold out); TME US $73.40 (hardly available); MatterHackers $69.99 (out of stock) and $299.99 for 3 kg; wholesale portal $37.79 per 500 g with a $1,000 minimum and discontinued final-sale terms [5][6][8][9][10][12]. A 3 kg spool saves $119.95 (28.6%) versus six 500 g rolls at $419.94 before shipping and tax [5][6]. Named alternatives: PPS-GF20 (glass-filled, 236.3°C HDT at 0.45 MPa, 6.05 kV/mm dielectric) when dielectric properties matter; PET-CF17 when the hotend is limited to 300°C and cost matters; QIDI PPS-CF 750 g at $104.99 sale ($129.99 crossed-out) only for QIDI owners with a validated profile [14][15][16][17].
