Summary

A 9.3-inch monochrome-LCD resin printer with a large 20 × 12.5 × 22 cm build volume, sold by Phrozen as a beginner-friendly large-format machine for medium and small prints. It is a clearance model now, and setup, resin profiling and post-processing are not plug-and-play.

Strengths

  • The 9.3-inch 4K mono LCD gives a 200 × 125 mm build area, larger than same-class rivals at the time.
  • Detail is strong for the class, and a ChiTuBox printer preset lets you start printing right away.
  • The metal build plate with handles is easy to handle, and an all-aluminum replacement plate is available.
  • Phrozen publishes component-level repair guides for the LCD, FEP film, touch panel, LED, Z-axis and mainboard.

Weaknesses

  • The 80 mm/hr figure is a theoretical maximum; real throughput depends heavily on settings, material and resin.
  • Setup can be fiddly: one owner thread calls the hardware and prints excellent but says getting it running reliably was much more difficult.
  • Connectivity is USB-only, with no Wi-Fi or Ethernet on this generation.
  • Files are locked to CTB, and the original firmware reportedly reads only files sliced in ChiTuBox 1.8.1 and below.
  • The mono LCD carries only a 3-month warranty and FEP film none, so consumables are on you.
  • No flush cutters are included, which All3DP called a notable omission for a first printer.

Speed and resolution

Phrozen rates the Sonic Mighty 4K at up to 80 mm/hr, but that is a ceiling, not a working rate. All3DP writes that the machine “is said to come close to printing 80 mm/h” depending on slicer settings and material, and a competitor comparison page puts real-world speeds for this class far lower while describing Phrozen resin printers as needing a lot of tinkering. Formlabs makes a rival printer, so treat its numbers as a claim rather than a neutral measurement. The 3840 × 2400 panel over a 9.3-inch face works out to about 52–53 µm XY, which is fine detail for miniatures.

Setup, firmware and maintenance

This is not a plug-and-play printer. Firmware is another wrinkle: the original firmware reportedly reads only files sliced by ChiTuBox 1.8.1 and below, and owners have documented firmware-update problems worked around by clearing the thumb drive. Once dialed in, the printing itself is well regarded. Maintenance means wearing PPE when handling resin, tightening the vat, filling it no more than half full, and checking the plate before each print.

Repairs, parts and running costs

Repairability is comparatively good. Phrozen publishes replacement guides for the FEP film, LCD, touch panel, LED, Z-axis and mainboard, and sells the parts: an all-aluminum replacement build plate is $63.00 (Phrozen US) and a 9.3-inch mono LCD replacement is $125.00 (Phrozen Global). Warranty, per Phrozen’s table: mono LCD 3 months; LED module, build plate, Z-axis, resin vat and main body 12 months; FEP/PFA/ACF film no warranty. The LCD is rated for 2000+ hours. Recurring costs are resin, replacement FEP film and the eventual LCD. A 2020 unboxing thread mentions an optional metal vat upgrade at $75 at the time.

Is it worth it?

Phrozen lists the Sonic Mighty 4K at $149.00 on its US store, sold out, against a struck-through $300.00 reference (Phrozen US, 2026-10); the outlet page repeats $149.00 at 50% off and a bundle at $245.00, also sold out, and the EU store lists €399.30, sold out (Phrozen EU, 2026-10). At that clearance price the package is competitive with entry resin printers, but no independent US street price, no second instrumented test and no failure-rate data were found, so a confident value threshold above the manufacturer’s own clearance anchor is not defensible.

Which model this is

This page covers the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 4K, a 9.3-inch monochrome-LCD MSLA resin printer from Phrozen (Hsinchu, Taiwan), launched in 2021. Don’t confuse it with the Sonic Mini 4K, the Sonic Mighty 8K/12K/Revo, the Sonic XL 4K or the Sonic Mega series. The Amazon listing for this model is ASIN B0DN6DKF88.
