Summary
Check the omissions before buying — no pressure sensor, no 30-second pacer, no battery indicator, no charger — and know that at least one owner reports alkaline pairs lasting only 5-7 days.
Strengths
- Batteries and a head are in the box, and any Oral-B round refill head fits the handle.
- One button and one mode; the whole feature set is hard to get wrong.
- A two-year replacement warranty with free like-for-like or better service is rare at this price.
- No charger to store, no cradle, no counter space.
- Owners of the Pro 100 family praise the simplicity, the small round head and the grippy handle.
Weaknesses
- No pressure sensor, no 30-second pacer, no battery indicator and no auto shut-off — it keeps running until you switch it off.
- No independent lab has tested this exact handle; CNET’s 2026 battery-powered category went to the Colgate Hum, and every roundup top pick is the rechargeable Pro 1000.
- An r/oralbtoothbrush owner reports alkaline pairs lasting 5-7 days instead of the 4-6 weeks they expected.
- The battery cap is stiff and reportedly hard to open, and Electric Teeth notes multiple owners complain.
- Oral-B’s own under-$100 comparison omits this brush entirely and positions the about-$50 Pro 1000 as its budget option.
- oralb.com had the DB5(K) family out of stock at check time.

What owners report
Community evidence is thin but consistent. The strongest specific report is battery draw: an r/oralbtoothbrush owner went through alkaline pairs in 5-7 days against the 4-6 weeks they expected, with no break-in period helping. Electric Teeth’ review of the rechargeable sibling notes a stiff battery cap that multiple owners struggle to open. The same coverage calls the motor “satisfactory but weak” against premium Oral-B models, and praise clusters on simplicity, the small round head reaching tight spaces and the grippy handle. Oral-B’s own site shows a review aggregate resting on a single visible review — too thin to count as evidence. Longevity signals exist but come from rechargeable handles, not this one: contact corrosion is cited as the biggest failure point, one Pro 3 motor commutator wore out at about two years, and an 8-year-old brush showed no battery degradation.
What the evidence says
No instrumented test of the DB5(K) exists from the usual outlets, and no RTINGS page was found. Roundups point elsewhere: CNET’s 2026 guide of 23 tested models names the rechargeable Pro 1000 its top pick and gives the battery-powered title to the Colgate Hum, and WIRED names the Pro 1000 the best oscillating brush.
Is it worth it?
Walmart lists the identical DB5(K) platform — the Pro 100 Precision Clean — from $19.97, and that is where the value case lives: a real CrossAction head, included batteries, a two-year warranty and no charging. The older Pro Health Clinical AA brush at $17.27 is out of stock. Oral-B’s own page carries a $0-49.99 band and showed the DB5(K) family out of stock at check time. Under about $25 it is an easy buy as a first, travel or secondary brush; in the $26-40 range it stays fair, but the about-$50 rechargeable Pro 1000 adds a 30-second pacer, a pressure sensor and ADA acceptance, and the roundups say it dominates at that money. The running costs are CrossAction heads about every three months and AA batteries, more often than you might expect given the 5-7 day report above. Daily use and brushing feedback point up to the Pro 1000.
Which model this is
The DB5(K) handle is shared across Oral-B’s US battery Pro 100 variants — CrossAction, Precision Clean, Gum Care and Charcoal — so color and head vary while the hardware is the same. Do not merge it with the rechargeable Oral-B Pro 100, the Vitality/CrossAction Type 3757 platform whose manual is indexed under the CrossAction name, or the Pro 1000 rechargeable that roundups prefer.
