Oral-B iO Series 7: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-19

Summary

The main friction is money and upkeep rather than defects: iO-specific replacement heads cost about $7-15 each against about $5 for standard Oral-B heads, the head-handle junction needs daily cleaning, and Wirecutter calls the companion app marginally useful. At the manufacturer’s implied $220 single-unit price it makes sense only if you will actually use the app, position detection and the interactive display.

Yearly running cost

Computed from replacement heads only: heads are replaced every 3 months, so that is 4 changes a year, and at $7-15 each it works out to under $30 a year at the low end of the range and about $60 at the top. Charging electricity costs are not quantified in the sources read.
