Summary
A 2024 Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship with a 6.82-inch QHD+ 120Hz screen and a 5,400 mAh battery, aimed at buyers who want top-tier performance and battery life for less than the Pixel, Galaxy or iPhone equivalents. Weigh the software-support runway before you buy: four OS upgrades and five years of security updates, fewer than Google and Samsung.
Strengths
- Battery life is the most consistent praise, and independent tests rank it at or near the top of its 2024 class.
- Testers measured a wired full charge in 38 minutes and a wireless full charge in 45 minutes.
- The bright 6.82-inch QHD+ display and strong sustained gaming performance drew steady praise.
- The 64MP 3x periscope is a real step up from the OnePlus 11’s 2x telephoto.
- Wireless charging returned and was widely welcomed.
Weaknesses
- Cameras are good but not class-leading; multiple reviewers found low-light and night shots underwhelming.
- IP65 resists splashes and dust but not submersion, while its flagship rivals are IP68.
- Four OS upgrades and five years of security updates trail Google and Samsung’s seven years.
- The US model drops mmWave 5G.
- Owners report battery drain after OxygenOS 15 and a June 2026 OxygenOS 16 update, though no measured failure rate exists.
- Several reviewers dislike the curved edges for accidental touches and off-axis color shift.

Battery, charging and performance
Battery life is the reason to buy. Tom’s Guide’s test clocked 17:41h, ahead of the Galaxy S24 Ultra at 16:45h, the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 14:02h and the Pixel 8 Pro at 10:03h. PCMag measured 18h 10m of YouTube-loop playback and a 38-minute wired charge to full with the included charger, plus a 45-minute wireless charge. GSMArena’s Active Use score was 14:11h, and CNET’s 3DMark result beat the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The US model charges at 80W rather than the 100W of the global version because the same adapter caps at 80W on a 110V outlet.
Cameras
The 50MP main and the new 64MP 3x periscope are improvements over the OnePlus 11, and the Hasselblad-branded color tuning is a highlight. Low light is the weak point: multiple reviewers found night shots underwhelming, and CNET called the camera disappointing relative to rivals. The phone records 8K at 24fps and 4K at up to 60fps.
Water resistance and software support
The OnePlus 12 is IP65, which is dust-tight and resistant to low-pressure water jets but not submersion; the Pixel, Galaxy and iPhone flagships of its generation are IP68. Software support is four OS upgrades and five years of security updates, against seven years from Google and Samsung. If you keep phones for five years or more, that gap is the thing to weigh, and US buyers also give up mmWave 5G.
Owner reports and upkeep
Owner threads report substantial screen-on-time drops after OxygenOS 15 and after a June 2026 OxygenOS 16 security update. Chinese-market units can be region-locked and fail to make or receive calls with a non-Chinese SIM. No measured failure rate exists for any of these, so treat them as owner reports rather than defects.
Is it worth it?
The value case rests on battery, display, performance and price, not on camera supremacy or water resistance. At the $799.99 and $899.99 launch prices the consensus was strong value against the Pixel 8 Pro, Galaxy S24+ and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As a 2024 phone checked in late 2026, the reckoning is the discount against the shorter support runway: at a deep discount it remains a strong battery-and-performance buy for someone who does not need the best low-light camera, IP68 or mmWave.
Which model this is
This page covers the OnePlus 12 global/US model, sold in 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations in Flowy Emerald and Silky Black. The Amazon listing tracked here is ASIN B0D2R84QDF. Don’t confuse it with the OnePlus 12R, the China-only 24GB/1TB variants, or the later OnePlus 13/15 models.
