Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A Stone-colored 68-fl-oz single-serve coffee maker that brews either compatible K-Cup-style pods or loose grounds in four styles, with a fold-away milk whisk that froths but never heats. Check the model label before you buy: retailer pages mix this machine with the smaller PB051 and with other colors.

Strengths

  • Brews pods and loose grounds in the same machine, so you can switch without owning two brewers.
  • Four styles cover black coffee, stronger coffee, iced coffee and a small concentrate.
  • A 68-oz tank is 12 oz larger than the frequently confused PB051.
  • The fold-away whisk and built-in insert storage remove the need for a separate basic frother.
  • Grounds sizes reach 24 oz, well past the 12 oz pod ceiling.

Weaknesses

  • The whisk does not heat milk, so hot lattes need a separate heating step.
  • Retailer listings mix this model with the PB051 and with Gray and Denim Blue variants, so the title alone is not proof of what you receive.
  • No validated failure rate exists for this exact model; owner reports mention reservoir leaks, grounds escaping into the cup and pods erupting from the brew head.
  • Dimensions come from a reseller rather than an authenticated blueprint, and no measured wattage was confirmed.

Pods, grounds and the milk whisk

This is a personal-size brewer that accepts both formats. Pods run from 6 to 12 oz; grounds run from 6 to 24 oz in seven steps. Specialty is not espresso, it is a small amount of concentrated drip coffee, roughly 4 oz. Rich can deliver less liquid than the number printed on the button, so treat the cup sizes as nominal.

The whisk is for cold foam only. It agitates milk and folds in, but nothing in the machine warms it. Plan on heating milk yourself. Short mugs need the cup tray raised, otherwise coffee splashes out. Wet grounds and spent pods have to be removed by hand, and switching between modes means swapping inserts.

Leaks, grounds and pod blowouts

Owner accounts are mixed and not tied to a verified model suffix, so treat them as warnings rather than statistics. One September 29, 2026 owner reported a leaking reservoir that Ninja replaced, then roughly six months later found the replacement brewer leaking from the bottom. Another owner reported water on the counter within 24 hours.

Practical advice: reseat the tank, and if water keeps escaping under the powered base, unplug the machine and contact support. For grounds, use a medium grind, the correct basket and filter, and don’t overfill. If a pod blows out repeatedly, stop brewing and don’t open a hot, pressurized head.

No independent test has measured extraction, brew temperature, noise or energy use on this exact model, so manufacturer flavor claims are not evidence.

Cleaning, parts and running costs

Descaling and nozzle care matter here. The related Ninja operating guide describes descaling, checking the correct adapter and the orange Clean indicator, and lists fine grind, overfilling and a blocked nozzle as causes of basket overflow. No clog rate has been measured for this model.

No proprietary pod subscription and no scheduled filter replacement, so the machine’s own running cost is $0 a year. Coffee is the real expense: a 15 g serving every day works out to 5.475 kg a year, about 12.07 lb. At an illustrative $15 a lb that is roughly $181 a year, and one pod a day at $0.50 is $182.50 a year. Electricity is minor; drawing 1.5 kW for four minutes a day is 36.5 kWh a year, about $7.30 at $0.20 a kWh, and real use will differ.

Spare parts are the weak spot. SharkNinja catalogs parts for the PB051 family: the reusable filter (XFPB050), the pod adapter (XADPPB050), the brew basket (134FK050), the Smart Scoop (234FK051), the spout and the nozzle (138FK050, 136FK050), each in the mid-teens of dollars. None of those is confirmed to fit the PB055AST, and the 56-oz PB051 tank will not fit the 68-oz body. Confirm the exact model and serial with Ninja before ordering anything.

Is it worth it?

US prices checked October 30, 2026: Best Buy lists the exact Stone model at $139.99, sold out; Legend Micro lists it at $94.99, open-box and out of stock, with a 90-day seller warranty; Hearth and Kit lists $125.35, out of stock. eBay asking prices for this model run from $84 to $166 or more across new and used conditions, with seller authorization and condition unverified.

The sensible bands: $70 or less new from an authorized seller is good value, $71 to $95 is reasonable, and above $125 you should weigh the PB051 instead. SharkNinja sells the smaller 56-oz PB051 at roughly $99.99 to $129.99 depending on promotion, and it has official spare parts. If a pot of coffee or cold-brew carafe matters more than individual cups, the CM371 Hot & Iced XL at $139.99 fits that job better.

Which model this is

This page covers the PB055AST Stone, 68 fl oz. Do not confuse it with the PB051ST or other PB051 machines at 56 oz, nor with the PB055ABL in Gray or Denim Blue. Retailer metadata mixes these, so check the sealed box and the model and serial label rather than the listing title. No original PB055AST instruction booklet was located; the guide available online describes the smaller related machine, so follow the booklet that comes in the box. The official Ninja page for the related PB051 states a one-year limited warranty; confirm with the seller that this coverage applies to your unit.
