NEEWER RP19H: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-25
Summary
The NEEWER RP19H is a 19-inch mains-powered bi-color LED ring light with 512 LEDs, sold in Standard, Advanced and Pro kits that do not all include the same 2.4 GHz remote or USB transmitter. Reported issues are limited and conflicting: one buyer complained the ring did not fasten securely to the tripod, while others found the hardware sturdy, and the lamp is AC-only with no battery option. At 43 W nominal draw, electricity is roughly $2.24 to $8.94 per year at an assumed $0.20 per kWh, and there are no subscriptions or consumable filters.
Common problems and fixes
- Ring not secure on tripod — a Shop buyer reported on September 26, 2025 that the ring did not fasten securely to its tripod and had to be repeatedly disassembled for mobile jobs; Tom’s Guide and other owners found the hardware sturdy. Check the spigot and locking knob and do not load phones unless the head is secure; warranty covers manufacturing defects but not wear from repeated teardown. [1][6]
- Top-heavy on extended stand — the 1.42 kg ring plus up to three phones sits high on a stand adjustable to 70.87 in; tipping risk depends on leg spread, floor conditions and cable pull. Keep legs fully opened, route cables without trip loops and use a weighted base in traffic-prone studios. [1][3]
- No battery or off-grid use — no internal battery or battery plate is published; mobile or unplugged shoots lose the light. Use the supplied 15 V AC adapter only. [1][3]
- Kit contents vary by package — Standard lists ring, stand, three holders, AC lead, bag and manual; Advanced adds the 2.4 GHz remote; Pro adds the ball head. B&H 66604515 includes RF remote and Bluetooth shutter, while 66603444 adds a USB computer transmitter. Confirm included remotes and dongle in writing before buying. [1][3][4]
- Glare at full output — Tom’s Guide found maximum brightness intense enough to be uncomfortable when adjusting controls from directly in front. Start dimmed and avoid staring into the panel. [2]
Parts and consumables
- Stand — height adjustable 31.5 to 70.87 in. NEEWER sells an ST-190 190 cm stand at $39.99 as a functional substitute if its 5/8-inch spigot and load capacity match; it is not verified as the original kit part. [1][8]
- Phone clamps (3) — included; supports phones up to 3.7 in wide. NEEWER lists a BASICS SP-10 cold-shoe/1/4-inch adapter at $19.99 and a phone-holder/hot-shoe kit at $25.99 as alternatives, not confirmed identical replacements. [3][9]
Yearly running cost
The RP19H needs no subscription, cloud account, paid app or monthly service. At the nominal 43 W consumption, 5 hours a week for 52 weeks is 260 hours and 11.18 kWh, about $2.24 a year at an assumed $0.20 per kWh; 10 hours a week is 520 hours and 22.36 kWh, about $4.47; 20 hours a week is 1,040 hours and 44.72 kWh, about $8.94. These are mathematical illustrations only; dimming, color temperature, phone charging and adapter efficiency change real use. Optional spending includes an ST-190 stand at $39.99, phone clamps at $19.99 or $25.99, remote batteries and eventual adapter or stand repairs. No measured annual parts or failure cost was found.
When it is a good buy
US snapshot October 25, 2026, before tax; stock and bundle selection must be checked.
- NEEWER US official lists the RP19H from $159.99 with a Standard / Advanced / Pro kit selector; availability by kit could not be confirmed from the scrape. [1]
- Best Buy US SKU 11956315, kit with tripod, three holders and upgraded 2.4 GHz touch control: $115.49 in an October-indexed listing, with $149.99 comparable value; a separate crawl showed $129.99. Treat $115.49 to $129.99 as inconsistent cached snapshots. [5]
- B&H Photo manufacturer 66604515: $87.59 with free standard shipping but special order, 6 to 10 weeks expected, no store display; a separate accessory-tab crawl showed $109.49. [3]
- Good buy: $95 or less for the 66604515 package if one can wait for verified special-order fulfillment, or $115 or less for a currently shippable complete RF-remote variant; $115 to $130 is acceptable for an in-stock 2.4 GHz kit; above $160, compare the Neewer RL-18 new kit at $114.99 or the Godox LR150 at $59 without an equivalent stand. [1][3][5][10][12]
- Neewer RL-18 New Version 18-inch 55 W kit at $114.99 direct includes stand, one holder, filters, selfie remote and bag; advertises 3200 K and 5600 K presets, CRI 95 and up to 5500 lux at 0.5 m. Better if higher headline brightness and an all-in kit matter more than three phones and finer CCT control. [10]
- Neewer RP20-B 20-inch battery-powered kit at $199.99 direct includes two lithium-ion batteries and charger; better for off-grid shooting. [13]
