Summary
The MSI Codex R2 Gaming Desktop PC (D14NVP5-613US) is a mid-tower prebuilt built around an Intel Core i5-14400F and an RTX 5070 12GB, aimed at 1440p gaming. Check the H610M-G motherboard before you buy: one PCIe x16 slot, one PCIe x1, Gigabit LAN and WiFi 6E suit most builds, but they cap your upgrade path.
Strengths
- The RTX 5070 with DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation is a genuine 1440p card at a prebuilt price.
- 32GB of DDR5-6000 and a 1TB Gen4 NVMe give this build more headroom than the 16GB norm.
- PCMag gave an earlier Codex R2 Editors’ Choice, citing airflow, dual-channel memory and easy upgrades.
- MSI’s standardized components and a two-screw glass side panel make opening the case and upgrading painless.
- Reviewers and owners both call the bundled keyboard and mouse better than typical prebuilt extras.
Weaknesses
- Both PCMag and Tom’s Hardware flagged loud fans under load; adjusting the stock fan curve is the usual fix.
- No outlet has reviewed this exact RTX 5070 and H610 configuration, so all test data comes from earlier, differently configured builds.
- The H610M-G board limits you to one PCIe x16 slot, one PCIe x1, Gigabit LAN and WiFi 6E.
- The i5-14400F is locked, and the H610 chipset supports no overclocking.
- The one-year warranty is shorter than the two to three years Corsair and CyberPowerPC offer.
- Seller photos and copy often show B760-based versions with WiFi 7 and a 650W PSU, which is not what this SKU ships.

What independent testing found
No outlet has reviewed this exact RTX 5070 and H610 configuration. The test history belongs to earlier builds in the same chassis.
PCMag’s September 2024 review of an RTX 4060, 16GB, WiFi 7 build earned Editors’ Choice: competent 1080p gaming and high-refresh 1080p or 60+ fps at 1440p in many titles, with praise for airflow, dual-channel memory and the top-mounted USB-C port. It also flagged loud fans under load, slower storage than peers and a shorter warranty than some competitors; the reviewed unit cost $1,085.91. Tom’s Hardware’s March 2024 review of an i7-14700F and RTX 4060 Ti build called it a “solid entry-level gaming desktop if you can tolerate the fan noise” and listed the air cooler’s noise as the main reason to hesitate; that configuration cost $1,299.99 as tested. Tom’s Guide’s October 2024 verdict was “1080p gaming on a budget”. Consumer Reports tested a different variant — Core Ultra 7 265, RTX 5060, 32GB, 2TB — and rated its performance excellent.
Treat those verdicts as evidence about the chassis, its cooling and its support, not as measurements of the parts you get here.
Noise, maintenance and upkeep
The stock air coolers are the consistent complaint: both PCMag and Tom’s Hardware measured loud fans under load, and the usual fix is adjusting the fan curve. An r/pcmasterrace owner reported around 60°C operating temperatures. The mesh front and top intake carry dust filters, the side panel comes off with two thumb screws, and MSI uses standardized components inside. Four case feet raise the chassis about an inch for power-supply airflow, though the bottom intake has no removable filter. There is no optical drive and no memory-card reader.
Price and value
IGN listed this configuration at $1,399.99 at Woot in July 2026, marked down from $2,299.99; that deal unit carried a 90-day Woot warranty instead of the standard one year. In August 2026 Notebookcheck listed a comparable Codex R2 AI with an RTX 5070 — Core Ultra 7 265F, 16GB of memory — at $1,499 at Walmart against a $1,999.99 list price, and Tom’s Hardware called the same unit a real bargain for 1440p. PCMag’s July 2025 roundup named a lower-tier Codex R2 its budget 1080p pick at $1,109.99. A standalone RTX 5070 retails around $549–600, which puts the rest of this system in context.
Is it worth it?
At the $1,399.99 Woot price, this configuration is easy to recommend for 1440p gaming: the RTX 5070 alone runs about $549–600, so the rest of the system is priced tight. Between $1,499 and $1,600 the value holds, but the H610 board’s limits and loud stock cooling deserve scrutiny next to B760-based alternatives. Above roughly $1,600 the value weakens quickly, and no documented price for this SKU sits that high, so waiting for another deal is reasonable. PC Guide also cautions that the cooling, PSU and older LGA1700 platform make this a weaker foundation for upgrades.
