Summary
A budget 5G phone with exceptional battery life and a clean Android 16 experience, held back by a 720p display and sluggish performance from its aging Dimensity 6300 chipset. Check the display resolution before buying: at 720p on a 6.7-inch screen, text can look blocky.
Strengths
- Battery life is exceptional: Tom’s Guide measured 19 hours 11 minutes in their web-browsing-over-cellular test, the longest of any budget phone they’ve tested.
- The vegan-leather back feels premium and provides grip; the phone looks and feels more expensive than its price.
- Clean Android 16 experience with minimal bloatware.
- Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos are a nice bonus at this price.
- 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD slot, and FM radio are rare features at any price.
- 32MP selfie camera produces good selfies for the class.
Weaknesses
- The 720p HD+ display is too low-resolution for a 6.7-inch screen; text appears blocky and pixelated.
- Performance is sluggish: the Dimensity 6300 + 4GB RAM combination produces choppy scrolling and slow app launches.
- The 2MP macro camera is universally dismissed as a waste; it adds no meaningful capability.
- IP52 water resistance is inadequate; many competitors offer IP67/IP68 at similar prices.
- Only 2 years of OS updates, shorter than Samsung’s 7-year commitment on some budget models and Google’s 7-year support on Pixel phones.
- Gorilla Glass 3 is an older, less scratch-resistant generation.

Battery life and performance
Battery life is the phone’s strongest suit. Tom’s Guide measured 19 hours 11 minutes in their web-browsing-over-cellular test, calling it “the longest-lasting budget phone we’ve ever tested.” CGMagazine praised battery life at roughly two days. The 5200mAh battery with 30W TurboPower charging means most users will comfortably get through a full day, and light users may stretch to two.
Performance is the trade-off. The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 is a 2023-era chipset, and the Moto G (2026) uses the same processor as the Moto G (2025) and Moto G Play (2026). CNET noted that “scrolling posts on X becomes choppy” despite the 120Hz refresh rate. Android Authority criticized “weak everyday performance.” The 4GB of physical RAM (down from 8GB on the 2025 model) compounds the issue, though the up to 8GB RAM Boost feature uses storage as virtual RAM to help.
Display and design
The 6.7-inch IPS LCD is the phone’s most noticeable compromise. At 1604 x 720 (HD+), the resolution is low for a screen this large. CNET described text as looking “blocky.” PhoneArena measured 947 nits max at 20% APL and rated brightness “Poor.” The 1000-nit peak brightness is only available in High Brightness mode; typical brightness is lower. GSMArena noted slow pixel response time on the LCD panel.
The design is a genuine strength. The vegan-leather back provides grip and texture, and the Pantone colors (Slipstream and Cattleya Orchid) look distinctive. However, PhoneArena’s reviewer found both color options unappealing: Slipstream is “dull” and Cattleya Orchid is “overly saturated and a bit childish.” The phone feels more expensive than its price in the hand.
Cameras
The 50MP main camera produces solid images for the price class. Tom’s Guide called cameras “pretty good” for the price. Yahoo/ZDNET noted better low-light performance than the Moto G Play. The 32MP selfie camera is good for the class, a significant upgrade from the 16MP sensor on the 2025 model.
The 2MP macro camera is universally dismissed. Tom’s Guide called it “a waste.” It adds no meaningful capability. Video recording is limited to 1080p@30fps on both rear and front cameras; there is no 4K and no 60fps option. GSMArena reported camera focus issues on the main sensor.
Software and updates
The Moto G (2026) ships with Android 16 and offers a clean experience with minimal bloatware. Motorola commits to 2 years of Android OS updates and 3 years of security updates from launch (through approximately December 2027 OS / December 2028 security). This is shorter than Samsung’s 7-year commitment on some budget models and Google’s 7-year support on Pixel phones. Android Authority called this a “poor update promise” in the context of competitors offering longer support.
Is it worth it?
At $150 or less, the Moto G (2026) is a strong value. The battery life, camera quality for the price, and clean Android experience make it a solid budget pick. The 720p display and sluggish performance are acceptable tradeoffs at this price. Yahoo/ZDNET suggests considering the 2025 model for $150 if on a budget.
At $176–$199 (MSRP), the phone faces stiff competition. The Moto G Power (2026) at $179.99 offers 8GB RAM, a 1080p display, and IP68 for less money. The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G offers a 1080p AMOLED display. The Moto G Stylus (2025) can be found for $100–$150 and has a much stronger CPU/GPU. Motorola’s own site lists the phone at $200 (Yahoo/ZDNET, April 2026). T-Mobile lists it at $189.99 (Tom’s Guide, December 2025). Kalvo lists $178.94.
The Moto G (2026) makes the most sense for light-to-moderate users who prioritize battery life and clean software over display quality, camera versatility, and raw performance. The minor year-over-year upgrade and RAM reduction from 8GB to 4GB make it a harder recommendation at MSRP compared to the 2025 model or the Stylus (2025).
